I realize the title of the article may not have been the author's choice, but I really feel the bar needs to be set a little higher in terms of what's considered "hard." Is it really "hard" to call himself a feminist? His stories suggest merely a lack of interest (from men.) That hardly qualifies as "hard." If he wants to see "hard" (lol), he should go to that feminist meeting and call himself an MRA.

It's a place for people with common interests to discuss those interests, and there's nothing wrong with that. The more stories we share and discuss, the better off we are. We'll understand the issues better; we'll develop better ideas; we'll formulate better arguments and tactics for when we do attempt social change outside of Reddit. There's no downside here.

No need to qualify that last statement. The American Heart Association only gives 28 cents on the dollar to research. 20 cents go to administrative fees, one of the lowest rates in the industry. The rest goes to advocacy (read: lobbying for government funding plus bans on smoking and other things) and education (you know that red dress campaign to draw attention to heart disease's impact on women? that).

While the police comments are despicable, I'm equally appalled at the reports' attitude toward this. They're basically saying the police should have done their reporting for them. "Why didn't you tell us this was over? We're just talking mouth-pieces, you know. We couldn't possibly investigate the stories we report ourselves. It's not like that's our job or anything." FYI that wouldn't be "entrapment" because the girl is not a law enforcement officer or working on behalf of a law enforcement agency. Private citizens cannot legally entrap people.

ROR...I just can't believe it. Each count of rape is $150,000 MINIMUM bail where I live. It's possible she hasn't been fired yet due to WA law. I know in CA you can't fire a public employee without a Skelley hearing. A felony conviction likely results in automatic dismissal, so you may as well wait for the trial to resolve. That and she'd just plead the 5th at the hearing if you tried to have it now.

Yeah, no, not really. Some states have "persuasive precedent" laws which do not bind the courts to follow precedent but do encourage it and permit appeals where a decision contradicts prior decisions, at which point the appeals court will resolve the conflict and that would actually become binding. Not all states even have this limited type of precedent at the trial court level, though. If there's an appeal, precedent comes into play, sure, but that would usually mean you lost at trial. I'm not too sure of that. Certain protections (1st Amendment particularly) do apply to institutions like schools and shopping malls. It's highly likely that the right to have an attorney is applicable under Federal law even in a private school.

Read the police report. It was filed in 2009, not 2013. In fact it was the boy who talked to the police, not the girl, because he had been told the girl was going around telling people she had been raped. Seriously, just read his statement. It doesn't read like he's a villain. It looks like just another regretted one night stand. So sad.

I actually lived in this neighborhood. The thing to realize is that the Alameda Country prosecutor's office is flat broke. As in furloughed. As in straight up not pursuing easy convictions because they literally don't have the money. Spouse of an employment lawyer here- So Title VII is the Federal law that most sexual harassment lawsuits allege a violation of. It's the employer, however, not the harassing employee who is sued.
