Well OP defined it as being able to accurately identify your own emotions and being able to make a close guess as to the emotions of others. Which sounds good to me, though I would add being able to predict the effect of your actions on the emotional state of others, and being able to read how emotionally intelligent others are

Being able to identify how other people are feeling is critical for successful social interactions. You can't go with the flow if you don't know which way the flow is going.

Who says it has to be measured for it to exist?
/r/PurplePillDebate19/09/14 06:24 PM

Maybe it depends on your definition of respect. If you're talking about accomplishments, not everyone deserves respect because not everyone is accomplished. If you're talking about existing as a human among other humans, everyone deserves a modicum of intrinsic respect unless they show otherwise.

What I meant was she got the impression that you were playing into her plans when you said you were going to meet her at happy hour, and she was disappointed when she didn't end up getting to parade you around.

If you're physically imposing, smiling might be useful for communicating that you're not a threat so people feel more at ease around you.

I agree with /u/knitro. You may have shot yourself in the foot (or at least dropped a cue ball on it) by initially playing into her plans of parading you around her turf. So at first she expects the quasi-relationship treatment, and when she ends up not getting it she's more upset than she would have been otherwise. Overall, great stuff though.

From your links: Seriously? It's Omegle, what the hell do you expect, good conversation or guys asking to see you naked? Very clear tone of "what the hell is wrong with you?" In a subreddit that's supposed to be supportive of people who want to vent. That breaks the rules. So just pointing out that the nature of the post is stupid is worthy of a ban? That's being un-supportive, putting the OP on trial and derailing the discussion. So, harsh but more or less yes because he broke the rules. Any ru…

Reality isn't what's important to these people, it's the narrative. They start with the conclusions of the narrative, and find ways to fit observations to the narrative. The combination of mental gymnastics required to reach the already accepted conclusions and failure to realize how ridiculous it sounds is equal parts impressive and troubling.

Regardless of whether or not the use of snark is appropriate, it's a guaranteed one way ticket to ban land. As /u/BobbyTomale said above, it gives them an excuse to ignore you. You can't realistically expect to go in there with a single ounce of negative, accusatory tone and to be taken seriously. Why does manipulation get such a bad rap? It's typically associated with dishonest/nefarious ends. Taking advantage of psychological tricks to get what you want regardless of what the other person wants. Of course this isn't the only mode of manipulation and it can also be used in a way that benefits everyone, but that's not what most people think of. Most people are more likely to think of scammers or con men.

I like Jack Donovan's musings on the subject. Traditional masculinity is essentially a prescription for facilitating the survival of your tribe or community in a harsh environment. Obviously in the modern world, that definition is somewhat obsolete. However, I believe that in general, gender roles are more embedded in our instincts than most of us would like to admit, and that a person who is good at conforming to their gender role has a higher likelihood of being happier than someone who isn't.

Seems like a tactic to further inflate sympathy for victims and demonization of perpetrators. Rape is an exertion of power, no doubt about it. But saying power is the end to which rape is the means is ridiculous. The end is to satisfy an urge. Exertion of power is the means to do so.

The red pill as a concept refers to a false paradigm of gender roles/interactions being presented by society. Men's rights and TRP are both built off that concept, but MRAs focus on remedying legal issues affecting men while TRP is more concerned with sexual strategy and individual fulfillment.

His "what's your problem" post is relevant too. My problem is living in a world teeming with young men who’ve become so conditioned to believing that anything remotely masculine is to be ridiculed, vilified and subdued until they have no concept of what it truly entails much less pass off even the possibility that it could be something positive and attractive. So the newspaper does have the right to do what it wants, and the campaign isn't trying to go over their heads but asking them to voluntarily remove the content. Sexual attraction does not follow the same rules as the social order, because these rules are NOT limited to our cultural upbringing. Things like women dressing sexier and feeling like they have to wear makeup in order to be attractive are part of our culture, sure. But the very basic, human instinct to procreate is not entirely a cultural construct, a lot of sexual rules evolved as a matter of necessity, and we cannot ignore the simple drives that make us part of the natural world. I'm sure some metrosexual men are attractive to feminine women, but I very much doubt that they could hold a candle to truly masculine men. Probably the attractive metrosexual men carry a somewhat feminine surface appearance, but possess enough attractive masculine traits within themselves to make up for it, like /u/FuelUrMind mentioned - superficially feminine, but with dominant behavior. More like the opposite. Feminine women are attracted to masculine traits. The rise (pun intended) of uptalking represents men becoming more feminine. Statements should not sound like questions. It signals insecurity. "Here's what I think, but you know, um, only if it's ok with you...?" Though who knows, maybe it works in tandem with women becoming more masculine. Doubt it though.

It's absolutely the guy's business how much sex they have. Even if "..." isn't literally the best flake response, it's still extraordinarily efficient. Men are disposable, no one cares about them. They have hyperagency, so any sort of support is redundant, unnecessary and just plain stupid. Do we have an International Toilet Paper Day? NO! What we should really be focusing on is giving support to women. They have hypoagency and can't fend for themselves, not unlike children. They're the ones who actually need all the help, attention and support they can get, and any diversion of attention to anywhere else is a detriment to women everywhere. /s …

Gotta even the scales somehow, I guess. It's certainly true that women are ultimately the ones who have control over whether which males reproduce, but their choices aren't exactly... exacting. They don't have control over who or what they're attracted to, and are often basically rendered helpless to their own impulses. So on the one hand they do have the agency of making the choice, but on the other their bodies sort of force the choice on them.

Maybe I'm being a little loose with the definition, but the way I see it male hyperagency and female hypoagency pretty much are the gender roles, at least as far as behavior goes. Women must be helped and protected because they're weak and fragile or something (and inherently valuable), whereas men are left to fend for themselves, and if they fail no one cares or they're looked down on, because they're supposed to have that hyperagency. In general, the conception is that men act, and women are a…

Hypergamy is a natural result of hypoagency. Female mating preferences for a protector/provider means the man does things and provides resources for the woman, so she doesn't have to do the work. You might say that hypoagency is agency by proxy, with the man supplying agency for the benefit of the woman.

The "crazy" referred to here is basically excessive/unchecked emotion. Women tend to be much more emotionally oriented than logically oriented, and on top of that society allows and even expects them to be that way. Ergo, bitches be crazy. I get it, though. People don't like to be called out on bad behavior or be spoken of negatively in any way, shape or form. Especially women, their feels must be protected at all costs. Because hypoagency.

Pretty low hanging fruit. The top comment: This piece fails for at least three reasons. First, it's not established that you think reduction in testicular cancer is a good thing. I'm going to assume that you believe this but your point would be much more palatable if it were made explicit. As written this gives the impression that you see no value in attempts to reduce the number men who die of cancer. This then changes the structure of the rest of the argument: "If we want to achieve this goal,…

The Feminine seeks fluidity and boundlessness as the Masculine seeks rigidity and boundaries. Women can act like and should be treated like men, or women, or whatever else they want, but men should only act like and be treated as a man. Edit: I'm describing the paradigm that explains this. The second part is not my opinion, but the implication of the paradigm.

I agree that it sounds like jabbering. Breaking your sentence-paragraphs down into smaller sentences would make it flow better. Good syntax provides a structure and flow of ideas that's more easily digested than simply throwing them out rapid fire, where the reader barely gets to catch their mental breath between ideas. Let me see if I can get this straight - why women and white knights see game as coercion. Women want to attract high value mates. High value mates often convey their high value through behavior - if a man is high value, his behavior will convey it. A high value man doesn't have to be told how to be attractive, he just is, or at least that's the ideal. Women have an incentive to hide what behaviors truly work when it comes to attracting them - this acts as a filter which only lets through high va…

RP ideas are born from noticing trends and sharing those thoughts. Women are seen as more suited to those roles. Ability and strength are different things. Sexism is not necessarily treating someone negatively. This seems like a natural consequence of Briffault's Law. Also, from the standpoint of stereotypical gender roles, men are the protectors and providers and women are the ones protected and provided for.
