This also seems to mean that people that use foreign objects to penetrate someone can't be convicted of rape. Do they really function under that law I wonder, or is it outdated and not applied (like various laws in the US that exist but no one enforces). If they do work by this law, then holy shit that's insane

I'm very familiar with the "no true scotsman" and the variant "no true christian." What I'm saying is that not all feminists are like the stereotypical man-hating rigid angry feminist. And it's not a fantasy land version, it's what I aim for. All I'm saying is not all feminists are like this, a lot are reasonable and have good ideals and recognize that society harms men as well. That's not fantasy that is reality. I live it and have seen many other feminists who do as well. The assumption that a…

Yes, I suppose it is possible, and there are definitely tales of men sacrificing their lives. I think the best way to resolve it is to understand that humans will die for loved humans (and sometimes even animals) because it's built into us as social beings, but to appreciate and love men (and women) for what they do when they are alive and the small things and large things they do to show love and not expect giving your life as the only way to show love.

It absolutely doesn't have to be. I'm just saying all of this within the context of dying for someone you love, so in this situation death is a given, as a sort of mind experiment on social norms. Obviously you wouldn't want love to equate to death. I just think that as a social species when you love someone greatly and they are at risk it's not unfathomable to give up your life to save theirs. It's almost just a part of being human. Society does affect love and the way it presents itself, but I…

Well, there is the archetype of the mother/woman saving her child or children, but there are less occurrences in the media and popular culture of women dying for men, but I don't think at all that it never happens, and if it does happen less that is an issue, the idea that men should die but women don't have to. I like to think that as a woman I would die for my siblings, or my parents, my family and my friends. It's an extreme statement of love, but it doesn't mean the other less life-ending st…

ahhh, I gotcha. I don't think it's such the case though, I mean even looking at the social portrayal of relationships women are appreciative of men and what they do and who they are and what they act, and in fact society portrays women as wanting to know the men better (what are you thinking, what are you feeling, tell me about X) and men being hesitant to open (which I think this stereotype that women are over-emotional and need men to be as well, and men are cold shut-cases is harmful to both …

It's not a copy-paste rant if you bothered to understand what I'm saying. And perhaps I'm self deluding with the gun control fantasy as it plays out in my blood in my head, but it's no more deluding that thinking more guns = less deaths. If you are going to say that I'm self-deluding and more guns isn't, it would be nice if you provide some evidence or rational argument instead of just saying "haha you think more ppl would die." So far I don't see any thing that indicates I'm self-deluding while…

I like to think that real love means being willing to die for your loved ones no matter you gender. It's not a good idea to romanticize it like the media is prone to do, but I don't see anything "wrong" with dying for someone you care about. I'm a woman and I would die for a family member or a best friend easily. Maybe if they showed women in the role of dying for a loved one it would make it more equal? It's not fair to expect men to die and not women, it should be the same for both genders. I …

I'm sorry, but do you really think if more people, in a dark, tight, smoke filled room, had guns it would have been a lower body count? In chaos, noise, panic, smoke and dark if a bunch more people were armed it would have been worse. What if someone else had a gun out to try to kill the shooter, you shouldn't know if he/she was the original shooter or a defender. Besides, Gohmer is slime. "When people say, ‘You say there’s a God, where is god in all of this?’ Well, you know, we don’t let–in fac…

"I'm hanging out over here to learn more about men's perspectives." Same, I just subscribed a couple days ago myself. And I didn't pick up any implications at all in your post that alcohol necessarily means you can't consent, I was just wondering if there was a generation gap, but that can't explain it since we're close to the same generation (I'm 22). But I agree w/ the caveat that there is a line that is too far, which is why I excluded "wasted" and obviously passed out as ok times to move in,…

You can't know that until you try :) Don't hold what they haven't said against them, get the actual words out of them, then it holds up your case very well that there is a harmful double standard. Who knows, you may be surprised by some of them. Would you have imagined prudence giving the answer she did without reading it?

Not to pry or intrude, but are you of an older generation? I'm just asking cause I feel like my generation (college and post-college atm) is more accepting of the idea that a woman can still consent if she is buzzed or even drunk (not wasted or passed out drunk tho), especially if it's been talked about when she is sober. I have a friend who often has drunk sex with her boyfriend/partner and they've never had any issues with it, so i'm curious if it's possibly a generational difference or just d…

Yeah, feminism is very hard to pin down for sure, especially since it seems many people have very different definitions and there isn’t a main party or platform to reference. And I didn't mean to imply that feminism has exclusive rights to egalitarianism at all. What I was trying to say was that a good bit of people who identify as feminists are also egalitarian and for gender equality, which I think is the feminist movement recognizing the condition of women has increased (though there is still…

I’ve thought about the same stuff before. I think of the more extreme feminists as largely ignorant to actual facts or sucked into dogma and often unwilling or able to rationalize and reasonably come to a conclusion, instead just jump on the “women are right!” train. I’m also a skeptic which I think is part of why I don’t care for any of the BS without there being actual evidence or a sound argument to back it up, and I realize it’s almost never black and white. And ‘proper feminist’ isn’t reall…

I would agree, they cause intense problems for both sides and offer nothing constructive. My concern was because scanning some of the men's rights posts I saw a lot of "feminists do this" and "it's cause of feminsts...", and that's disconcerting for me because feminism covers a whole gambit of beliefs and just leads to a dogmatic mindset of "if X was said by a feminist or is part of the feminist movement it is by default wrong" which doesn't help either side grow and progress. Not saying at all …

I think the line that is currently being used is inanely arbitrary and ridiculous (I also commented on it in reply to rogersmith25 above) and I don’t agree with the idea that if you have any alcohol in you you can not consent and thus it is rape. But I do believe alcohol can and has been used in order to facilitate rape by lowering a man or woman’s inhibitions. For the point of argumentation, let’s consider GHB (obviously not at all like alcohol, but just for a thought experiment). The person is…

I feel that feminism and men's rights in many respects are working for the same goals (you see a lot of "it's ok when you say/do/act this way to the other gender, why is it not ok the other way around?) and equality, but both sides blanket the idea in stereotypes. "All men's rights advocates are trying to take control over women." "All feminists are man-haters and want to make men slaves to them." And both of these stereotypes are BS. People have to learn that just because person X says they ide…

This is my first post to this reddit so forgive me if I don’t fully understand the norms, but this isn't representative of proper feminists and feminism. I’m speaking of the main branch that is for equal rights between genders, not of the “women are better” or “men are always wrong/dangerous/animalistic” branch at all. Please keep that distinction, because I’m a woman and a feminist but I’m also for men’s rights, and I think that is possible because as a feminist and in accordance with my femini…
