Happy to hear that man. It feels good when you put yourself out there and suddenly get some confidence back. Just don’t base your happiness on these casual dates. Still do all of that stuff whether you have a date or not. Continue to build your confidence and learn how to make yourself happy by yourself. Sounds like you’re doing great work and doing this the right way. Best of luck.

I’m someone who’s still working through his own issues, so please recognize that this is someone who doesn’t have all the answers. For context I’m 5 months post catching my wife of 13 years cheating. 2 months post divorce being finalized. From my perspective, you seem to still be dealing with a lot of emotions from the divorce and some insecurities. I had a brief 2 month relationship and afterwards I realized I still have a lot to work on and was essentially using this relationship to fill a voi…

I recently read a book called Out Stealing Horses which I really enjoyed. It’s about an old man living out his last days in a shack in some far off town. Spends a lot of time covering how he’s dealt with grief over a multitude of issues. The part I loved the most was how the man chose to make his own peace and live on his own. It’s not directly about divorce, but as someone who’s currently trying to figure out how I’m supposed to just function on my own, I thought it was a good read.

I know some are gonna call you crazy, but if you’re not ready you’re not ready. I had some issues on my end when I was dating shortly after my divorce. Turns out sleeping with the same woman for 13 years, you get a lil comfortable with your routine and any change is difficult to overcome. I got mine at times, but when we broke up I realized that I needed to take a bit more time to completely get over my ex wife. It was a nice confidence boost for myself that hey I’ll be able to get laid again at…

At the end of the day it’s all about what you personally can handle. Yes things are being done mutually but there are still emotions involved. Personally the idea of staying in contact with my ex wife would cause more harm than it’s worth because of the feeling of never really moving on. Ask yourself how you would feel if you found out she was dating someone else right now. If that makes you feel uncomfortable then I’d say it’s probably not worth whatever money you would get managing it. My ex a…

Man the market is insane right now for sellers. I had a similar situation with my divorce recently where the house was the only hard part to finish up. To just be done with everything we both agreed to pay for stuff like cleaners and trash outs. Put it on the market and sold it same day. We basically told our realtor we just wanna be done with it and accept the first good solid offer we could get. Yea sure maybe we left a bit of money on the table, but I was done with paperwork within a month an…

I’m younger but in a similar situation. During the divorce I accepted a new job and moved to a new city. It’s excited but also incredibly lonely being somewhere new. I’m struggling right now but all I can do is keep trying. The main things I’m doing are saying yes to everything, actively searching for local events/3rd spaces, and picking up new social hobbies. Small things like art classes, volunteering at a local animal shelter, and finding local events has been steps but they haven’t grown yet…

I’m here because my ex decided to cheat on me after 13 years while I was struggling with depression for the first time in my life. I should hate her guts but even now I still remember the past. I still remember feeling the love we had for each other. And yea, I do miss her at times. But that’s what memories do to us. We only remember the good. The truth is we just weren’t meant to be. I have some regrets about how I was as a husband at times, but I’ve come to accept that there’s nothing I can do…

My ex wife cheated on me after 13 years. Used the excuse that I became emotionally distant and that we grew apart due to my depression. She wasn’t wrong and it was an immediate wake up call to me to start working on myself and learn from my mistakes. We tried reconciling but she continued to cheat and I eventually filed. I’m sure she’ll continue to point at my flaws to rationalize her choices. I look back at the past few years when things started to go down and I have my regrets for how I handle…

Going through this same issue right now and the consistent spin I’ve heard is that the new space is finding social hobbies. Stuff like run clubs, rock climbing, I’ve even made plans to just start volunteering at a local animal shelter to just get out and talk to some people while making a difference. I’m a bit of nerd and I’m also going to look into DnD campaigns in the area.

Recognizing your problems is your first step towards fixing them. You have two ways forward. You can either sink deeper in this depression and let it ruin the rest of your life or make the intentional choice to be better. You can’t change the past, but you can work on yourself and change the future. Choose to live.

You can see that I really have no idea what I’m talking about lol. In my head I’m thinking about updating my filing status with my payroll department and if I needed to do anything before I’m officially divorced. But I realize now that it doesn’t matter and the actual filing status is purely through the tax system. I guess the question I should have asked would be if I should update my w4 now while we’re separated but still technically married, or if I should wait until I’m officially divorced?

Ok so it makes no sense to update it right now and just wait until I’m officially single next month? We already took care of last year’s taxes so it’s purely looking forward.

I’m sorry, I’m just talking about updating my w-2 with work until I can officially change it to single status once the divorce is finalized. We’ve already filed last years taxes together since we ended the year married. I’m just curious if I should update anything in this weird limbo period until I can tell HR I’m officially divorced.

We’ve thankfully handled everything amicably and have already filed last year’s taxes jointly since we ended the year still married. I was more curious about this weird in between spot while we’re just waiting for the paperwork to officially be filed.

Filing for me was the moment I started to turn it around. The moment I finally made the commitment to put myself first was when I could finally focus on what was most important, myself and my future. It’s scary and it will hurt for awhile. But you know what needs to be done and you’ll never start to crawl out of this hole until you start putting in the work. Filing is that first step. I just filed a few weeks ago and have started dating/talking to other women. But I only did so after talking wit…

Absolutely see a therapist. It’s refreshing having someone who is on your side and knows how to professionally help you. I’m waiting on a potential job opening before I jump into anything but I intend to find new hobbies. Over the years I have become incredibly secluded and lost most of my support system. I have no real friends to count on and little family I trust. So I’m going to force myself out of my comfort zone. I’m going to volunteer at a local animal shelter just to get out of the house.…
