In Quebec, the government has introduced a new law in July 2025 that gives more "protection" to unmarried couples (common law) who have kids, that will stipulate that property (ie: homes) owned by one party will be considered a "family asset" thus if there is a breakdown in the relationship, there would be a re-distribution of assets. This is absolutely terrifying. Now you can’t even protect yourself financially by just not getting married!? Whatever happened to private property rights?

Stall until you know more. what if she only has 6-12 months to live? you might be able to avoid ever getting divorced at all and save yourself a ton of money.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
