Perhaps negative consent should be the default. If a woman wants the right for child support she should get the man's consent before having the baby. Silence is not consent. ​ CS amount should be about half of what it is across the board

Interesting. Thank you for posting this. Those seem like some big stair steps between income amounts, but the idea behind the system makes sense. The USA has a child tax credit of $1,000 per kid that might compare to Denmark's government paid Child support. I'm not sure how that amount compares.

Clicking the View latest bill text... "(b.1) Rape or incest.--No court shall award custody, partial custody or visitation to a parent who is the father of a child conceived as a result of a rape or incest when the child is the subject of the order, unless the child is of suitable age and consents to the order." If you are the mother and rape, you can still have custody. This BS unanimously passed the house already.

Correct. There is not a simple solution. That is precisely why there shouldn't be simple one size fits all guidelines that judges have to follow. Supposedly judges are smart people. Why is it beyond their capabilities to come up with a reasonable solution on a case by case basis?

I'm curious about the logistics of a financial abortion. Would a man have to be notified of a pregnancy within a certain amount of time? I would imagine that a man would have to decide sooner than the woman, as his decision may influence hers. Would there be a paternity test? What if she didn't know who the father was or couldn't locate the father, or didn't know she was pregnant until beyond the abortion deadline. I think for a financial abortion to be a viable alternative someone would have to…

Agreed. I've looked at other states (I'm in PA). and arizona has one of the better systems. Look at New york, texas or PA.

This! In PA we have presumptive 50/50 custody which is great, but Child support still starts with a presumption of 70/30 custody and then makes a half-assed adjustment. That adjustment basically takes the difference in salaries and gives the lower earning parent half. Why not have both parents pay actual child related expenses proportionately to their income?

You should ask for the $ to be put into a 529 rather than going to mum. Or if you are old enough, depending on the state you live in, your preference might matter in determining custody now. Go live with dad. collect support from mom and put that in the 529. ??? profit!

If they really believe that, then maybe child support should not be such an unreasonable windfall so its not such a financial incentive. Then we can see if those men change their minds. Any argument that people want custody for $, is simultaneously an argument that child support is too high.

Default 50/50 custody Realistically calculate the cost to raise the kids Divide that cost proportionately by income % and parenting time. Support = (Kid expense * % of income * % of time kid is with other parent) - (the same calculation for the other parent.) It is really that simple. The hard part is calculating the costs and income accurately. Situations should be evaluated without using a chart to establish costs.
