You’re misunderstanding me. I asked this question because of seeing so many people complaining about the “improve yourself” advice, to get an idea of what they actually want people to do. That’s why the last line of my post is basically “so what’s the point of complaining about it”. I’ve said in numerous other comments in this thread that I do think self improvement is the answer. And honestly, even if my opinion is what you thought it was, that’s no reason to personally attack me. The only way …

Just because that’s the way you experience relationships doesn’t mean that it’s my experience. And I would never get married, but if I did, I wouldn’t need anything in return. Spending time with someone I love is enough. I’m self sufficient and I don’t need somebody else to give me anything I can’t give myself, except for the experience of knowing them. Expecting your partner to do x, y, z and give you this and that is a guaranteed way to be unhappy. If you don’t have any expectations and just e…

Maybe that’s how you see relationships but it’s not how I do. I do things for the people in my life because their happiness matters to me and I want to support them, not because I expect anything in return.

Edit: sorry misunderstood your comment. Having boundaries has nothing to do with how much you love someone. In fact, respecting your partners boundaries is paramount to having a healthy relationship. If her not doing one little thing is enough to change how you feel about her - that’s not love.

Reread the last sentence of my comment.

Love is a connection that’s judgement free. If your respect for a woman hinges on the amount of partners she’s had, then you don’t love her.

Again, that doesn’t seem like a relationship that’s rooted in actual love.

I don’t know what this means. I’m not participating in any race and I don’t see other people as my competition or enemies.

Thank you! I see so many people blaming others for their unhappiness, demanding that everyone else change while simultaneously refusing to change themselves. So this question was to say “you can’t expect everybody to change because you say so, so what is a tangible solution to your problem?” The responses I got were “eugenics, robots, women are sluts, and there’s no solution” lmao. You’re one of the few people who offered a response that addresses the root of most of the problems discussed on th…

How does cherishing someone encroach on your self respect?

Interesting idea lol. I could see there being a pretty heated moral debate about that, but who knows what will happen in the future.

Yeah I guess it would be kind of like a dog lol. But that level of sophistication in AI feels like a long way off.

My understanding is that eugenics is selective breeding of people. I don’t think it inherently means sterilization.

You’re calling me high handed after saying “I’m not impressed” and insisting you knew exactly what my perspective was and felt contempt for me because of it…except it turns out that what i was saying was different than what you thought I was saying. Again, I think that you’re reading into my words and assuming intentions that I don’t have. I have been nothing but respectful and earnest during this conversation and your attitude has been hostile from the start. I don’t think you’re willing to act…

“The only difference between a human and a robot is that you can see the robot's programming.” That’s a pretty big difference though. The illusion of free will is a huge deal. With a person, there’s always the possibility that they really love you and picked you because you’re special. With AI, you know that who you are has nothing to do with it. You could be the worst person on the planet and they’d still act like they love you. And people want to feel special, they want to be understood, and t…

So, eugenics?

That’s still about you and not them, though. Not “is this someone with a unique soul that I truly understand, admire, and respect?” But “Will this person give me the appreciation I want?”

That’s probably my fault for not being more explicit. Changing yourself is always possible, but expecting other people to change en mass to behave the way you think they should isn’t. So when I see people complaining about their lot in life, blaming it on other people, and refusing to change, it makes me think “Okay, so if it’s the problem is with society, what do you want to do about it?”

“the best you can do as an individual is try to find happiness where you can. Be open to new experiences, ideals, and perspectives. Try to hurt the least amount of people till your fleeting existence is fin.” That’s advice whether you agree with it or not. Maybe you should consider it. Honestly I think you could really stand to benefit from being open to new perspectives.

Those are still gender roles, though, just different ones than we’ve traditionally had. The true end of gender roles would be not making any generalizations about men and women, and judging an individual only by their own actions and not the actions or beliefs of people of a similar demographic.

I’m personally all about self improvement and personal growth but I think it’s naive and selfish to expect other people to change for you. Even if they should, the chances of it happening are very low. Personal solutions to your own problems are valid, but most people on this sub are tired of hearing “just improve yourself”, which is why I’m challenging them to find a better solution. Is that what you thought I was going to say? Because if it is, I really can’t imagine why it arouses contempt in…

Yeah, that’s pretty much what it boils down to. So far this is the only solution offered here that seems actually doable. But would something without free will still be able to fulfill more intimate and emotional needs? Obviously it’s better than nothing by I imagine it would become kind of like porn, just more realistic, and people will still feel like they’re missing out on real human connection.

Thanking him for putting some thought into his answer and saying I agree isn’t “giving him a medal” lol. Why are you so annoyed that I agree with him and you don’t? I’ve yet to see you contribute anything to this conversation but criticism. If you want to have a thoughtful discussion, offer something besides “no you’re wrong and don’t impress me”.

We’ll have to agree to disagree that it’s trite. And it may be unhelpful to you, but I’ve seen a lot of people on this sub who really need to learn how to open their minds a little bit. So I don’t think it’s bad advice.

My view is that you can only control your own actions, and that expecting other people to behave the way that you want them to is a sure fire way to be unhappy your entire life. Also, you seem to be reading into what I’m saying and referring to implications without actually saying what they are. I’m at a complete loss when you say “I know where you’re going with this” and “gotta call bullshit on the implication here”. You may believe you completely understand my intentions and beliefs, but unles…

So because selfish and evil people exist and hurt those who have good intentions, everyone should give up on having morals and do what they want, regardless of the effect is has on other people? Please correct me if I’m misinterpreting you. I really hope I am because I would legitimately kill myself if everyone felt that way. What a horrible way to go through life.

I actually agree that most peoples problems can only be resolved by changing themselves, because you can never expect the world to change for you. That being said, the “improve yourself” advice is typically looked down upon here and I see a lot of people who have a lot of blame and anger towards other people for their own unhappiness. Those are the people who never have realistic solutions to the problems they constantly complain about.

That has not been my experience with relationships at all. Maybe it’s because I’m picky about the people I choose to have in my life, or maybe it’s because I approach people with the goal of getting to know them and understand them, and I don’t have the mindset of “is this person exactly what I’m looking for in a partner?”

Whether you agree with it or not, it’s a thoughtful reply because he clearly put some thought into it. I particularly agree with the last paragraph, although I don’t necessarily agree that humans aren’t supposed to be monogamous or that modernity is inherently worse than the past.

It seems like we’re having two different conversations. A lot of people are pieces of shit who will cheat on you. This goes for men and women. Someone who loves you will not cheat on you. Period. If you view relationships as transactions where your partner must by x, y, and z and have had x amount of partners, then even if you find someone it will be based on superficial traits and not a deeper emotional connection. By approaching relationships this way, you are much more likely to end up with a…

I think women divorcing their husbands because they miss having promiscuous kinky sex is a lot rarer than you think. And in the rare cases that does happen, it’s clear that they’re transactional relationships like I mentioned above. Not rooted in love.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/22 03:49 AM
1

I am convinced that most of the men that consistently push this view have never had an emotionally fulfilling relationship. When you reduce a relationship to a transaction, it makes sense to compare it to previous “transactions” to get a sense of whether it’s fair or not. But keep looking at relationships that way and it pretty much guarantees you will never know real love. And this applies just as much to women who view relationships that way.
/r/PurplePillDebate10/08/22 03:16 AM

No it’s not fair and its not any one group’s fault that it’s not fair. It’s the nature of pretty much all social interaction to be inherently unfair. Sorry that’s how nature works. The only way to make dating fair would be to have forced relationships organized by the government. And that it is a huge infringement on individual freedom.
/r/PurplePillDebate09/08/22 09:35 PM

Yes, men have many valid complaints. But this post isn’t about any of those, so it’s kind of irrelevant to the conversation.
/r/PurplePillDebate08/08/22 11:57 AM

I would say that the big difference is that men seem to blame women for their lack of success in dating, to the point where they get angry at them because they can’t get laid. And I don’t really see the same anger and entitlement come from women when they don’t have success in dating.
