Your mom calls you in tears seeking consolation, and this is your response to her? Dude.

Your first graf pretty much sums her up. Ultimately we’re free break-up therapy. Joking aside, I’ll be generous and say I know as many men as she does. I recognize none of what she describes as “men” in them. But if we’re using that as the benchmark for “men” I guess she should just start posting about how most/all men are: happily married for at least 10 years and going; with 2-3 kids; with a wife who works in a white collar job who may make more than them; who both try to juggle the demands of…

It’s so situation and person dependent. Sex after the first date and then as a man showing continued interest by calling the next day, proactively setting up another date, etc. is the best of all worlds - esp in terms of easing any potential insecurity she has. That’s what happened with me and the GF I had prior to my wife - turned out to be a really nice 2 year relationship that just ultimately ran its course.

Sorry for any misunderstanding, I am not sure if your last line is sarcastic or not. But if you like the girl and she’s already agreed to go out - go buy her dinner!

This is nonsense. Normal people don’t think or act like this. True a woman may have a crush on you/like you that you don’t like back. If it becomes obvious you should let her down gently. But if you’re boyfriend-girlfriend and dating? Why wouldn’t you take her out? Part of building a relationship (and maybe marriage/family/life) together involves sharing new experiences, learning new things, etc. You spend within your means, and those grow as you both get older and make more money. And she’s doi…

This is fascinating. I recently discovered this sub after it was recommended to me when I commnted on a relationship/marriage related post on r/askanything or whatever it’s called. I see this style of “debate” here and can’t understand it. Your “hot take” is based on nothing more than vibes and anecdata gleaned from TikTok, presumably. And it may have a kernel of truth to it. But it’s supposed to be taken as a fact that can be extrapolated and applied to “Men”, whatever that means. And yet a res…
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/26 08:33 PM

You know exactly what you’re doing if you’re thinking you’re gonna conflate codified inequality with individual actions. It’s disingenuous. The 13th-15th Amendments, Title VII, SCOTUS rulings in Brown v. Bd., and Shelley v. Kramer, etc are all proof of the dismantling of systemic racial discrimination. A honky cowboy cop disregarding his training and the law and shooting an unarmed black kid because his pants were baggy is not systemic discrimination.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/26 12:36 AM

You are asking for a single “source” that proves the eradication of misogyny in a legal system? The 19th Amendment and Title VII and IX at the federal level. For starters.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/01/26 12:27 AM

Misogyny exists on an individual level. I’ve known a few fellow men who are misogynists. I think the issue is thinking it continues to be some sort of pervasive structural/legal system that is consciously and systematically subjugating women. Much like the idea that “misandry” is some sort of new structure put in place to oppress men. In truth, no one in modern day America is oppressed in any systemic way. Your success (or lack thereof) is entirely your own, which is a terrifying thought for som…

As a guy - she wanted to pair steak frites with white wine. Even if it’s a heavily-oaked, full-bodied Chardonnay, and she looked like Sydney Sweeney, hard pass! Kidding aside, these dudes sounded - I’ll be generous and say - “interesting”. If I was a woman I’d say hell no!

lol We were all 25 and He and his wife were renting the top 4th floor walk up apartment in a really crappy small building in Red Hook, Brooklyn. I remember their apartment didn’t even have a stove just a range, they had to use a rotisserie oven they bought instead for baking purposes. The “rooftop” at the top of the building consisted of a grill and folding lawn chairs the building owner supplied, and a few large folding tables and igloo coolers we had to supply ourselves. So yeah, we were all B…

Do men think this? IDK. I’d imagine that the majority of men are able to show up to work, work hard at their job, pay their bills, be responsible citizens and good sons/fathers/husbands/friends/neighbors, etc. I think that makes them “good” vs. those who don’t do those things. Do they also possess the other intangible character/personality traits that make them good for a relationship with a particular woman? Who knows.

Do people not throw apartment or house parties anymore? Like friends invite friends, you put out a bunch of cases of cold Coors Light and cheap booze and solo cups and crank up the 50 Cent and shit gets wild?

1 and 4. As a OK looking, moderately successful older millennial (i.e. early 40s now, had 2 serious girlfriends before I met my wife of 12 years and counting, and had an “OK” number of hookups before meeting her but nothing compared so some of my friends who were banging chicks left and right), i can tell you, the “cold approach” never existed, even for the most successful of guys. Randomly walking up to a girl in a grocery store does not, and never did, happen in any serious manner with an expe…

“You can be a Republican and not support trump.” In all sincerity, is that enough? I hear this a lot and am curious about what this actually means. Like I am a Republican who came of age circa 2004. I never voted for Trump for temperamental and some policy reasons (but also think the “threat to democracy” trope was and still is a scare tactic and wasn’t gonna vote for any Democrat because they’re wrong, IMHO, on 99% of issues). I’m pro-free trade, for strong borders and deporting illegals immigr…

This. I recently stumbled on this sub and am endlessly fascinated by it. I look around at my friends, and my wife’s friends, and with 1 exception (and in the exceptions defense she is single and even to a layman is suffering through some clearly undiagnosed mental illnesses), everyone has been seemingly happily married for 10+ years with 1-3 kids in a pretty equal seeming partnership. They all seem to be well-adjusted adults that have found each other, made a commitment, and make it work to buil…

That’s my point. I agree. At least in my experience most people successfully navigate those differences, to the extent they are differences at all because they’re aligned on most things even with some opposite political opinions.

At 41, I look around and all of our friends have the dynamic of the husbands being more conservative (whether relatively or absolutely) than their wives, including in my case. I would say it works mainly because, man or woman, they’re all temperamentally conservative. Everyone’s in banking or consulting or a lawyer or a doctor/dentist, etc. So no one is a dyed hair keffiyeh wearing antifa member, they’re all just fairly normal people trying raise their families and retire as early as they can. I remember she then made a comment that she knew the student who was behind the desk who was struggling to reconcile the purchase list with the tickets from one of her classes, which led to me asking what she was studying, which led to the discovery we were majoring in the same thing but she was a sophomore who hadn’t taken some of the more advanced level classes, so we started comparing our experiences with professors in the lower level courses, etc. all to say 🤷‍♂️ it just kinda happened. This is insane. Example - I remember in 2006 when I was a senior in college I was standing in line one afternoon waiting for someone to give out tickets to a show later that night to the students who had prepaid. The person was clearly incompetent at this basic menial task. The girl in front of me was visibly annoyed and sorta looking all around. I happened to make eye contact with her and snarkily remarked, “who woulda thought someone could suck at this?!” She laughed, we chatted, I invited her…

I’d say if I were to become a widower now (after 16 years) then yeah, I’d find that acceptable as I don’t think I’d have much desire to get emotionally involved with another woman. Though this would be a somewhat different dynamic that would take some getting used to since I’m head over heels in love with my wife, but we also have a pretty even split (due to our career dynamics I probably do more) of the “domestic labor” you outlined above.

“A 5 ' 8'' man with average looks but a good career trajectory and solid communication skills will have a far better time dating than a tall good looking man that cant communicate.” You hit it on the head OP. Though I’m 6’ I fall into every other category you listed. My wife is more liberal than I am (though that’s relative rather than absolute as we’re both fairly conservative). And I noticed that in a lot of our friend circle that tends to be the case (wives more liberal than husbands). I think the important things that makes it work is that everyone we know, regardless of politics, is very temperamentally conservative. None of the husbands are storming the Capitol for Trump, and none of the wives are out throwing rocks at ICE. Everyone’s a white collar pr…

These “categories” seem entirely fictional, tbh. I don’t recognize any of them as actually being “real” people I’ve met in my 41 years of life. I will say this, what is she actually looking for? Because based on this she seems beyond shallow and unreasonable (in the sense she is not governed by reason and perspective and can’t adapt to a situation). If she’s looking for a young attractive, educated, upper-middle class white collar professional striver who will eventually make high six, low seven…

It won’t ever disappear as it’s probably the oldest human institution still in existence. But to your point it will continue to be more concentrated among those with more education, money, etc. It’ll continue the cycle of concentrating wealth, IQ/mental ability, psychological stability, in a smaller and smaller group leading to more inequality.

Why did I get married? Simple. I knew on the second date I had found the woman I was meant to be with. Educated, far more intelligent than I am, funny, compassionate, and most important - I could tell by the way she spoke - she is a reasonable person. I can’t say I had any burning desire to get married before I met her, but like I said by date 2 I knew I had found “the one”. Once I realized that I imagined a life with her 5, 10, 20, 50 years later and realized there’d be no better person to buil…

This is pretty much everyone I have ever known as a 41 year old man. All our friends are late-30 to mid-40s upper-middle/lower-upper class white collar professionals who grew up and live in very nice suburbs. Those who grew up in the city did ultimately move to the suburbs once the kids started coming. Men and women all with at least a bachelors degree and who are dentists, accountants, lawyers, sales execs, bankers, doctors, etc. All married at least 10+ years with multiple kids. All in very “e…

Yea this is fairly common, incl. in my own home 😂. I’d actually say this is almost all of our friend group - whether it be from HS, college, or town. In some cases the wife is still conservative but more liberal than her husband so it’s more relative than absolute, but the point remains. I think a few reasons - First all of us (early 40s) met back in the late aughts/early-2010s meaning pre-social media and pre-Trump. Because no social media was around then (Facebook was pretty much it) we had to…

Joint account. Every paycheck goes in it. All bills get paid from it. We hold each other accountable on spending, though if I want to buy a case of wine or she wants a new Gucci bag neither gives the other a hard time, but we also don’t go crazy often. All credit cards are shared. Start of every year we review our net worth and speak with our financial advisor about our short-, medium-, and long-term goals and adjust saving/investing accordingly. We’re a team and both have the same goal - retire…

This is the dynamic I know as well with 2 couples. Husband is a cop/firefighter type, and wife is a doctor in one and CFO of a bank with another. Husband makes a good salary, gets amazing healthcare benefits for his family, and in both cases can retire in the next 10 years with a full pension and benefits (thanks to us taxpayers 😂). Then at 50 they can get a second job doing corporate security and investigations, or whatever, and still make very good money on top of their pensions.

We live in the northeastern US. Both have lived in this area all our lives. Both of us are “American” although of various European ancestry. We’ve been together 15 years total, married for 10 of those. She “contributes” in the sense that she also works full time. Nothing is “split” everything goes into a joint checking, and we pay all bills from that. Hey there! No need for that kind of talk! I’d say life is as complicated as we make it in response to that. And frankly, if we’re casting aspersions it looks to me like some people possess the simple human ability to love each other, dedicate their lives to each other, and build a stable and solid family and legacy. Others need to faux intellectualize their inability to as a coping mechanism for their irreparable emotional/psychological deficits and the pain (even if unspoken and unacknowledged)…

I imply nothing. I’m directly stating that if your marriage is at the point where you suspect your wife is either cheating on you/pregnant with a child that isn’t yours/gave birth to children that aren’t biologically, you need to seriously re-consider every choice you’ve ever made. That’s not a healthy marriage. “Trust but verify” is not a logically consistent statement.

Right? Like what am I missing here. You can take a strand of your newborns hair, a strand of your own (or saliva or whatever) and just send it in. The whole “demanding” is hysterical performative nonsense. That being said, if you’re in a position where you have suspicions in the first place you probably need to take a beat for some deeper reflection as on how you, your wife, and your relationship got to that point.

I live in a very small suburban town (population > 5000) in the northeastern US right outside a major city. On your list Our small downtown area alone has a language school, 2 different martial arts gyms, a town green that has various activities every weekend (granted some are floral shows and fashion/trunk shows so maybe more gender exclusive), 4 dine-in restaurants, a great bar with outdoor seating, and a nice library. No. We met at 25 and I knew after only a couple of dates that I was going to marry her. We’ve been married 10 years and going (together 14 total). The idea of asking a woman how many dudes she banged before me is insane behavior. Granted I’m not marrying a prostitute, but if she’s slept with a couple of guys before me whatever - I’m no saint either. As far as how long will she be beautiful - to me she is the most beautiful woman in any room, and at 40 looks even better than she did at 25. Any ma…

Depends on the people and their histories. We’re all in our late 30s/early 40s and my wife has 3 friends from college who are guys. They’ve known each other 20+ years and I have no problem with her meeting up with them for dinner or a couple of drinks if they fly into town for work. 2 of them are married with kids, we were at their weddings, I’ve hung out with them, I have no concerns with her going out with them.
