lol. I just had a comment removed because I linked to the more positive sub. here's the deleted comment: Comments. I joined this sub years back because I wanted to connect with a positive movement but I quickly learned that people in this sub are mostly negative and rarely charitable in their assessment of others. Now I keep to slash r slash MensLib. It's so much more positive and mentally healthy there.

I forgot how caustic and bitter the sentiment is in this sub.

Hmm.. Maybe I didn't do a good enough job of expressing my understanding, then. Well.. first, I have a question for you: women shirk the responsibility of raising kids The way you worded that makes me think that you might believe in the traditional family model: that it is mainly the females responsibility to raise the child and the male's to provide income. Am I correct?

Will you quote to me what language I've used that has lead you to that conclusion? I'm pretty confident I've not argued that it's company's fault or males fault.

Yea. It reached batshit levels of insanity immediately. I'm wondering if it's true. Still, giving good and reasonable advice to the kid is still good to do. I very much disagree with pointing to his post, though. Using it as a post for this sub. This kid could potentially take his own life and we're capitalizing on this?

Frankly, this is also poor rhetoric. This is the second loaded question in this discussion and is right after your last one. Actually, it's not even a discussion anymore because you're not acknowledging my arguments. Strange that you would ask me that question given that I'm hitting you with more meaning than you can respond to.

Yea.. In the end a word is a word. Definitions can change over time but extending a charitable kindness will never stop being good. There's no point in pinning a meaning to someone to justify vilifying them. It's short-sided and immature. I have to continually remind myself that hurt people hurt people when I'm in this sub. But I think it's important because I truly believe that there are some real problems with how men are understood. It's just that the general male public seems to be too spun …

Hey OP. Just want to say that if you believe in being a good and just person and still choose to call yourself feminist, that's alright with me. I believe that words don't define a person, their behavior does and if you want to go out there and actually do some good for men who really do need it, more power to you. I wish there were more like you. It will very likely be way more good than those you see here spouting negativity and stubborn hate will ever actually do.
/r/MensRights27/02/15 02:02 AM

Instead of answering my question, you provided inflammatory rhetoric. Do you believe social truths or definitions to be absolute and unchanging? Do you believe that exceptions do not exist?
/r/MensRights27/02/15 01:55 AM

It seems like your argument is this: Feminism is evil. OP claims to be Feminist. Therefore, OP is evil. You're failing to realize that definitions aren't always the same for every person. This is basic empathy and understanding. Shitty stuff happens to all kinds of people under the guise of all kinds of purposes. Do you believe that MRAs are incapable of being shitty people in the name of MR? You certainly seem to believe all feminists are shitty people.

You gave me no content worth responding to. You've just conceded one of the points you made. Your other point is that you were victim to random violence. I'm sure that sucked but what does that have to do with the rest of this thread? Also, I actually think it's a straw man and you can tell I thought so by the edit I made, which the timestamps show I did right after posting.

Woah.. ad hominem. Belittling their problems does very little for you. In fact, it kills your credibility. You're not even trying to imagine what it would feel like to live in a world where your safety required you to always be wary, to not be alone with strangers, not be drunk with strangers, or have to constantly watch your drinks in public. Edit: Actually, I think that's a straw man.

My wife told me that she has had to actively rule out the possibility of being raped just so she could go to the bar or hang out at a house party. She doesn't complain about it, it's just something she's had to do. I don't live like that. I've never lived like that. I've heard other women say they have to do the same. I've never heard a man say that they have to do that. That seems like real gender issue that women deal with.

I don't think it's a valuable criticism to drop the 3rd world problems card when someone mentions 1st world problems. Solving 1st world problems is progress and we should never think to not progress. Though, I do think we should focus more on bringing the "lagging" parts of the world up to speed but.. such is life. Also, the other day, I told my wife about the post about a guy who was drugged and raped in his house by his student. She said that if she were in his shoes, it would likely not have …

I'd say safety is a real issue for women people. Totally agree. I just take issue with this language in your comment that I initially replied to: in context of your question they have no real serious problems Just because violence happens to both sexes doesn't mean that neither sex has no real serious problems. Or maybe I'm not understanding this context you mentioned?

How can we trivialize all the problems that women face in the western world and then expect to be taken seriously ourselves? Some of these responses are fucking ridiculous.

I dunno.. I'd say safety is a real issue for women. There are predators out there and these predators tend to be bigger and stronger than their "prey".

I'm really glad to see it in this sub because it's something positive. It's something that eases the negativity we all take on when we read about bad things happening to men just for being men. Personally, I try really hard to ensure that the things I see here do not spin me into a bitter person and something like this really helps.

Holy crap. I am actually upset now. I wasn't before, but now I am. You sit there at your computer and tell people what is right and what is wrong as though they're absolutes. And then you speak about ethics? Princess? Entitled twat? How is that not inflammatory? You say you want to have a discussion, but you forget that it's important to not insult the other person. Attack the argument, not the person. This is no longer a friendly dialogue and it was not me who broke that agreement.

Excuse me, Are you a doctor? Have you gone to school for this? On what grounds do you stand to tell me what is right and what is wrong? I have not expressed what I would do either way other than to consult someone who is educated and informed. Why am I not surprised that I'm in the negatives for saying that I'd prefer to consult an actual doctor and not some person on the internet.. How am I, a male, supported here? It's really hard to believe that this sub cares about supporting other men.

Non-anesthetized circumcision. shudders Those poor babies. I just looked it up and I think it can be considered a confident truth that it is a traumatic level of pain. All the vital signs mirror that of traumatic bodily harm. Not to mention the evident higher rate of emotional trauma during yearly vaccinations for those that were not anesthetized. Sheesh. I see that the general medical consensus is that the benefits outweigh the risks, but I'm sure that that is only for patients who are anesthet…

They are burdened by their own choice Disproportionate, as it's used in the article you sourced, is an important modifier for the word "burden", i.e. males are not as present in the house as females. Is that due to women's choice as well? in that we know there would be a reduction in these deaths if more doctors were men Holy craziness. Why would you blame just women when it's both genders who are not choosing the doctor lifestyle? What are you talking about, it's women that choose to work much …

Your uname makes me think that /r/redditarmy is leaking. So what? This is reality. Doesn't matter to the people who die in ER waiting rooms why women aren't working. Your original reply is about changing reality with your ideas. For you to dismiss women being "disproportionately burdened" by saying "So what? This is reality" shows a lack of any attempt for outside perspective. It's becoming clear that your agenda is all that matters to you. Yes there are people dying in ER rooms but it's not the…

Ok. To continue with your misuse of your first source... The long surgical wait times and lack of family physicians that plague the Canadian health care system are largely blamed on the paucity of doctors. That means we don't have enough doctors. Much of the problem is blamed on a decision by provincial governments in the early 1990s to slash medical-school enrolment More support for lack of doctors Dr. Robert Ouellette, president of the Canadian Medical Association, said medical schools need to…

Did you read the first source? There's all kinds of language that doesn't seem to support your logic. Dr. Mark Baerlocher, the study’s lead author, acknowledged he is tackling a thorny issue, but stressed he does not favour curbing the number of female physicians. Instead, the study calls for greater increases in medical-school enrolment to offset the phenomenon. .. The survey found that women, on average, provided 30 hours a week of direct patient care, compared to 35 from men, a result of fema…

Is this a joke? One: you're using the daily mail to support this ridiculous statement. A publication well known for bias and political agendas. Two: Do you really believe this level of social control is a good thing? You say "We really need to limit women in medicine" but who do you mean by "we"? You think women would support that purpose? Probably not, so you likely just meant just men. Wtf? How is this not closed thinking?

It was your assertion that "absolute truth" was in the thoughts she presented. I disagree, but we are different people and so, see things differently. If you have some valid concerns with her thinking, why not respond to her? She seems like she might be open to reasonable discussion.

The ethics and morals of murder is not subjective. They are. Was attempting to murder Hitler WRONG? It's not so easy to say. I agree with you on this. Though, this gets into the tricky moral quandary of "Murder one person and you can save several people's lives." However: The problem I have with SJWs is that they claim to own the absolute truth and what is right From reading the article, I believe 100% that this person is not even close to claiming to "own the absolute truth". She seems instead …

What an awesome article. Critical, yet charitable. Second, treat people as individuals. For instance, don’t treat every person who belongs to an oppressed group as an authoritative mouthpiece of that group as a whole. People aren’t plugged into some kind of hive mind. Treating them like they are, besides being essentialist, also leads to contradictions since, obviously, not all people agree on all things. This kind of thinking is something I often see absent right here in /r/MensRights

Anger and hatefulness are not the same thing. Anger is a legitimate response to injustice. It can lead to hate but it can also lead to action. I have no arguments against that statement, I wholeheartedly agree. No movement or group should be above criticism (no, not even us) Again, big ups for the ideas I'm reading here. If we're trying to maintain a long-term positive effect on society, we must be able to self-analyze and be comfortable with the possibility of being wrong. Only until someone ad…

just because someone makes up a new definition for feminism doesn't make that definition valid. Funny that you use that reasoning to justify this: As it should be. and this: They see feminism as having power and influence and they want access to that, so they lie to themselves about what feminism is to justify joining and supporting a hate movement. Since popular feminism has changed over the years with multiple generations. Which would mean that if someone was raised by a traditional feminist, …

Secret? They are publicly saying they are feminists. That is absolution. For you to say that "Feminist" absolutely denotes "hate for men" means that we will not reconcile our difference in opinion because we have different definitions for that word. In the language you just used, there is no uncertainty. You don't know these people and yet you are sure that, because they called themselves feminists, they were at least secret man-hating people. I cannot prove your assertion to be false but only because I cannot read minds and so could not know. I would not leap to say that at all. That's a silly conclusion. I guess it's possible I've just had the random luck of having personally met and worked with a few thoughtful, balanced women who call themselves feminists.
