Exactly, but the mentality I've run into in academia is as follows: if one group has more people suffering, such as women vs men raped per year, then they focus all of their attention on the higher statistic and ignore the minority. It's sickening.

I think that's a very good point too about people projecting their opinions on film and making it their own, but see in film school at least, the class is about the professor projecting their opinions on the film and then us all analyzing it from their perspective, even if the professor says, "this wide angle shows the inherent misogyny of the filmmaker", there's nothing we can say or do to convince them otherwise. Trouble is this new professor teaches sociology, and if you've ever taken that, it's like a free license for a professor to spout off their extreme claims while having no evidence to back it up or make correlations.
