Thank you! I wouldn't say I know what works, but from experience I know what does not work. That's half the game though, getting rejected and building yourself back up without faltering.

I went to one of those last year. It was my big try, fail, rebuild myself stronger time. I worked on my confidence boosting all night, even wrote my number down on some girls shirts after I had talked to them for a while. That method failed for me, but worked for my friend.

If you are like me and are intending on continuing on your way, then just smile and mouth (or say, depending on factors like if she is wearing headphones or if you) "Hey/Hi", keep eye contact and go about your merry way. Works as a great confidence boost for me.
