In pure theory, I completely agree with you. But let's look at specifics in my case. I worked, while she stayed home until the kids were in middle school. When she went to work, she put all of her earnings in hidden accounts. And then got PISSED when I found out. She also moved all my own money to accounts with her as primary and the bank tried to tell me that I needed her permission to even access statements.
