I did not delete that post. It was closed by someone other than me. But yes, that WAS me. And if by 'my fair share of LTRs', you mean one other multi-year relationship, which ended when we decided our visions of the future weren't compatible, then yes. It shouldn't matter, given that apparently (judging by the 'spinning plates' philosophy), men can have all the fun they want, it's just women who can't because that 'spoils' them, somehow. But there it is.

I think that the division of labor within any given family is something that the people in the marriage (or LTR) agree on between them, on an ongoing and non-permanent basis. If you decide it's important to you not to be the primary breadwinner, well ... mary a woman who already has an established career, or at least good potential to find one. And when the time to have children comes around, choose to become a stay-at-home dad if need be, so she can continue to build her career. Or you could bo…

I know. But seriously: does that mean you should dismiss it out of hand?

I am a woman, so I know how my own man snagged me, and how he is keeping me loyal to him. Namely, by treating me as an equal, by talking through important decisions with me and compromising if necessary (sometimes he's the one to compromise, sometimes I am, and sometimes we both put a little water in our wine), and by valuing my efforts in building and maintaining the relationship at the same level as I value his. You're welcome to listen to your grandfather if you think he has something of valu…

I agree with you that it's poor financial planning if you (only) have $10,000, and your future wife decides to spend it on a wedding rather than a down payment on a house. My question is: why marry a woman who disagrees with you on that, and is apparently unwilling to marry you if you DON'T spring for a $10,000 party? Because if she weren't unwilling to marry you with a less extravagant party, then I assume you'd be able to come to some sort of compromise that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. …

And I think this subreddit could use some dissenting voices. The fact that people here are apparently unwilling to consider points like mine (as evidenced by the closure of my earlier thread), is likely part of the reason they feel the need to fuck around, and deprive themselves of long-term relationships with women, except if those women are willing to work for it harder than they are.

I can see where you're coming from as far as marriage (potentially) being a 'bad deal' goes. Everything I've seen suggests it's true that courts generally side with the woman, especially if there are children involved. I could get behind an effort to advocate for more objectivity, aiming to eliminate the discriminatory treatment of men (fathers, especially) in cases of divorce. What I have a major issue with is the leap from "men and women don't suffer the same consequences if a marriage goes aw…

You might be right, except for this: I was never interested in any alpha male unwilling to invest any more time and so-called 'maintenance' in me than a one-night-stand or the occasional hookup would have required. I never have, and never will fuck anybody who simply considers me a hole to stick his dick in. Never mind a man who thinks he may well WANT me, but I NEED him. I don't NEED anybody in that way. And I'm certainly no child, dependent on the guidance of a man (that last one is a literal …

If I can be "socially conditioned to act against my natural instincts", then doesn't it stand to reason that I'm not special in that regard, either, and other people can be "conditioned" in much the same way? Humans have been proven capable of overcoming many of their baser instincts. Consider, for example, falling violent crime rates throughout the Western world: http://www.antoniocasella.eu/nume/Tonry_2014.pdf. Also the fact that we now tend to take care of our sickly and handicapped children,…

But that assumes there can only be two reasons for people to get together: either it's for no-strings-attached sex, or it's for (financial and other) resources. I happen to think that's an ungenerous over-simplification of reality, which does justice neither to women, nor to men.

And your contention, then, is what, exactly? That so-called 'perfect princesses' are rare exceptions to the rule? Because that certainly isn't my experience.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
