The explanation given for women-only chess tourneys is that women playing against men predict that they shouldn't be able to beat the clearly superior male player. This explanation doesn't blame anybody except for society's expectations, and the female players get to keep their gender-specific tourneys while [unfortunately] still appearing victimized. Almost this identical situation has happened to me with three different women, one of them threatening over text to accuse me of assaulting her. Personally when I'm talking to a woman about risk-management, I doubt that I'm the rapist in question stalking her in the night. I say, "A potential rapist might trigger and attempt to assault you", etc. etc. I'm not that offended.

I was doing a bad job of trying to be hypothetical. I completely agree that rape / assault is marginalized, I just meant to imply that hollywood media doesn't help the situation by showing rape the way it does - with hilarity in regards to men, and extreme care in regards to women.
