Even pre FDS this was one of my litmus tests when vetting. I’m firmly in the CF camp but I’ve had LVM / NVM attempt to steamroll me by telling me that “oh you could change your mind” and then tell me they want 3-5 kids without having the means to support them. Ummm no thanks.

I’m learning as an adult that being parentified is incredibly common. I went through high school toting my youngest two siblings around. I realized then how difficult raising a child actually is, especially if one of the parents is checked out either emotionally or physically.

As someone who’s been determined to be CF since before the CF movement I can sympathize with your points. I watched my mom have miscarriage after miscarriage, then have debilitating post partum depression after each of my siblings. Being parentified at a young age clarified my CF stance. I’m very comfortable being the rich aunty / godmother but I wouldn’t want the responsibility of a child full time even if it was a step child.

I’m celebrating completing several steps on my level up journey (paying off my consumer debt, dropping 20lbs, and dropping my LVM ex) I treated myself to a couple of pairs of pants from my favorite brand to replace ones that no longer fit, booked a mani, pedi, reflexology massage spa day and bought a cute embroidered sweater from a local woman owned brand that has my new life motto on it.
