I think you're totally right in the context of a nuclear family - husband, wife, and their biological children. But OP was talking about single moms in the dating scene, and in my experience single moms (at least good ones!) have a higher drive to protect and nurture their kids that leads to a lower tolerance for introducing bullshit into their lives.

As a parent, too, you're way less likely to put up with bullshit behavior within a relationship. I wouldn't want a LVM being an example to my sons, or setting my daughters expectations for love and relationships!
