American here. We're not okay with it so to speak, but our politicians don't listen to us for shit, our military is overstaffed, and we haven't had a global scale conflict that truly needed it in approaching eighty years. The risk remains that we will be selected to serve for something needless (see Korea and Vietnam), but we're pretty safe for the moment.
