You are absolutely right. I'm glad I asked here because I needed to read your advice. In my area outdoor distanced activities with masks on are considered acceptable, and outdoor dining was open for awhile. But no amount of risk is worthwhile to meet up w a stranger at this point. Thank you.

Very true! I'm not in a rush at all. I do think being on OLD is good practice for me right now re: learning to trust my ability to see red flags and get shitty people out of my life. I'm also pansexual and looking to establish connections w other queer women online and I'm already getting the vibe that that is going to be MUCH more fruitful. Many women are saying "I won't be meeting anyone but let's get creative w online friendships", whereas all the dudes profiles basically look the same as the…

This is so true. I'm really glad I asked here because this is the exact kind of advice I need.

Hahaha I like that dinner idea though. Right now we're basically at 'stay six feet apart and wear masks' and I'm not flinching on that for anyone, much less a stranger. So maybe I just wait and see if someone actually gets creative with the virtual format. If they did that would be a good sign.

This is so hard!! I’m so sorry your going through this. On the plus side you didn’t marry him or have his kids or, I’m assuming, get super financially entangled. It’s a blessing in disguise that he showed you his true colors now before any of that haplenwd

Uuugh this open relationship shit basically just means the woman ends up taking care of the man and whatever other women he wants to date and all of everyone’s feelings and chaos and bullshit. Nope. Not into it.

Thank you!!! Bookmarking this for future reading. I have let so many men like this rip down my self esteem. Looking back, all the times they told me I wasn’t good enough they were really just focusing on my minor flaws so they could ignore their glaring ones. As someone who has actually changed a lot for the better in my life, through discipline and consistent effort, it’s hard for me to empathize with people who just choose to stay stuck, especially when they typically have so much more privile…

Yep this. This is me now, after 6 years w an asshole who wanted to be in a polyamorous relationship where he could date whoever he wanted but I couldn’t date guys, only women. Nope. Now I’m 100% single until I’m 100% taken.

Ugh yes, also - I've had two men who I met on Tinder and went on a few dates with ask to come to my house post-Covid with no mention of Covid or how us hanging out in my house could put us and our families at higher risk. I had never allowed these men in my house pre-Covid, either, so there was no precedent. Seriously? No. Blocked with no response.

I started working with Autistic kids and wanted to educate myself so I read the book Neurotribes and there was a lot of that reminded me of myself and the issues I had as a kid growing up. And then I went to some Autistic women's forums on Reddit and I was like... damn, that's me. (https://www.reddit.com/r/aspergirls/ is a good resource but I guess they have pretty intense mods so just be warned if you want to post :) I had had several other diagnoses earlier in my life that didn't quite sum up …

Thank you so much for this. I’ve spent the last 2 decades entertaining men who treat me poorly. I was putting up with it because I’m autistic and felt that meant I had to settle for less (and was less good at reading social cues and spotting red flags). I am far stronger and more capable than all of those men put together. I’m so grateful To The ladies of FDS for helping me see that. And for providing a very clear rule book for how to deal with men - autistic women need this!!

This - totally. I have been friends with multiple women who were in abusive relationships. I never told them "you need to leave" until they brought the idea up themselves. I did let them vent to me and I did use every opportunity to point out the behavior that the man was doing was abusive. (I also set boundaries with them if they wanted to vent and I didn't have capacity to hold space for them - gotta protect myself first). After a couple years, both of them started saying "maybe I should leave…

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
