Of himself, maybe, and able to take control from the beginning to the end of a situation because he has the capacity to handle it - but no, I really prefer my husband be my partner. Neither one of us is in control, we are a team. We make some decisions together, and we each have areas that we are the chief decision maker and controller of - although we can always pair up if it is a bigger issue than one of us feels comfortable or capable of handling alone.

Fair enough - different lived experiences - but refusing to talk didn't serve their dad any good and he ended up trying to withdraw from life, so I refuse to let them think that therapy is only for wimps and women. Agree 1,000% on the attorney - for either gender, but moreso for men or for women who don't know how to effectively cry. Regardless, my heart hurts for what you have been through, and regardless of your opinion of me I am doing my damnedest to make the world a more equitable place for…

I am so so sorry that happened to you - the fact that stuff like this happens to so many of my patients absolutely breaks my heart. Size is a definite disadvantage when accused of a crime or making an assault report, to the point that when we are training on aggression predictors it is the first and last myth we debunk. It is another one that my sons and I have almost made a joke of - before they have sex, get a notarized statement of consent. Because absent a video recording, a sexual assault c…

I'm pointing out that a random stranger is more likely to try to grab my purse than his wallet, and two strangers are more likely to try to corner his 5'3 friend (of either gender, honestly) than someone who looks like they could go bear hunting with a switch. It may be due to discrepancy in reporting, but sexual assaults in the 15 to 30 age range also seem to have more female victims than male. I agree, though that males are more likely to be in a physical fight or the victim of physical assaul…

I agree with a LOT of what you are saying - except some of that male privilege comes in pure physicality, more explicitly - the ability to be 'big scary'. At 6'3, my gentle giant with RBF is generally given a wider berth than his 5'6 mama. The ability to feel like he can walk down a street with minimal fear of molestation or assault is a privilege tied as much to his size as his obvious gender, and his they/them friends aren't going to be able to duplicate that, regardless of if they are not 'fe…

I'm not familiar with Australia, outside of Outback steakhouse - which I have no doubt, isn't Australian. I can't speak for Zsa Zsa - but presumably her houses has no mortgage, and Hollywood has always had different standards for both genders. I was young in the 70s. In the early 90s, something passed where my mom had to go to the bank with her DL and change her name on the checking and savings from Mrs. My dad to her given name. When she died a few years later, he had to go to the bank to prove…

I am referring to the fact that the bank account and the house were owned by my dad and Mrs. My dad. He could take her off, she could not take him off. If he left, he could have left her with nothing. If she left, it would have to be cash and carry, because she wouldn't be able to write a check for money in the account. My daddy never mistreated my mama, but I had aunts stuck in situations that led to their death at the hands of their husband because they did not have resources to escape. Now, w…

I defer to your obvious expertise; mine is based only on the personal observations of my aunts and great aunts. Some had amazing husband's who did provide for their families, some had husbands who drank their paychecks. A couple were unmarried. Of the nine who lives into their 80s, two never married and three lost their husbands to accidents before they were 50. The remainder of my aunts and my own mama died before their husband, two of my aunts at their husband's hands. Saying women could have …

It's also possible that these women, born in or before 1935, never built up a social security or retirement fund. They were near 40 before they could have their own bank account. It blows my mind to think how much has changed over the last 50 years, and how much I take for granted that would have blown my grandparents' minds.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If one of you supports the other one, that one could claim head of household.. but the other couldn't claim themselves so... My husband and children are excellent tax deductions, but they cost much more than I am able to deduct.

It is only a tax break if one of you makes substantially less than the other. Married filing jointly standard deduction is just double filing single.

I don't need a man - and my job pays for all of my shit and his too. I am with him because I want to be. He is my best friend, my partner, and my lover. I do go out for girls night from time to time - not bars, though. Bars suck. He is welcome to come, but stuff I like to do is not stuff he likes to do... And he goes out to bars / concerts with his friends - because that is not my scene. I don't NEED a guy to protect me; I shoot as well as most of the guys I know ... But I appreciate knowing som…

I met my husband on the internet before match.com was a thing. In a chatroom. He liked my spelling. I liked that he used good grammar. He described himself as "short, fat, and ugly.". By the time we traded pictures, I was so taken with his personality and intelligence that he could have been a midget Shrek and I would have found him attractive. We have been married over 20 years now, and I have out earned him every one of the 20. I never needed him as a provider, I needed a partner. A rudder to …
