You need to be smart enough and strong enough to make the decision to not retaliate to her being rude and vicious. For the kids sake you ignore the abuse and eventually if you stop doing tit for tat with insults it stops. You have to for the kids sake make the relationship a healthy one. Eventually if you keep taking the high road she will stop

If you have kids you don’t block your ex wife. Deal with it.

That is petty. Just ignore abusing texts. If you have kids you have to be big enough of a man to deal with a little abuse.

It sounds petty but it drove her crazy that she couldn’t make me respond with anger. That is what she wanted and by taking the higher road it just infuriated her.

My wife would say some horrible ugly things to me via text and I just wouldn’t respond which would drive her bar shit crazy. Or if I responded at all I would say something like - I understand that you are hurting right now so I’m not going to take personally your threats and insults. You are good person and if I can help you feel better than I will but in the meantime I think it is best that I give you space.

Yes you are absolutely spot on. It is like my criminal law professor said in law school. “Nothing your client says to the police is going to help his case and by talking with police but any opportunity to take what you said and use against him or her by presenting to court in a way that.is out of context to make your client look bad. One has to remember divorce is an adversarial process and you have to always think how can this be used to make me look like a bad person. For that reason before yo…

I’m an attorney. What you need to remind yourself is that whatever you text or email will be shared with the court. So for example id she sends you a text that calls you a deadbeat that has a sexual attraction to live stock and you respond that she is a bitch with the brain of a rabbit. Her attorney will ask her to read to the court one of your texts. Your text calling her a bitch etc will be read aloud out of context because her precious message will not be read and no be one will understand or…

I’m an attorney and pre ups are unless you are super wealthy very difficult to keep enforceable. That is just not true. For example you sign a pre nup that the paid off property in Colorado remains your separate property. But you don’t have a separate checking account that you created prior to marriage. If you used any joint money to upkeep the house, pay taxes etc then it is no longer yours under the prenup because the use of marriage money to upkeep the house makes it joint property. I could l…

If you worry about her future, take out a life insurance policy. There you go she is protected. That is that. There are no financial or other benefits for a man to remarry.
/r/Divorce_Men11/06/24 07:47 AM

The only reason to remarry is if you plan on having more children. If you don’t want more children why in the world would you put yourself through this again. Men that remarry and don’t want more children make zero sense. What do you gain from remarrying? Nothing and a lot of downside.
/r/Divorce_Men11/06/24 07:46 AM

Men that remarry when they have no intention of having more children make no sense. Children is the only reason to marry for men.

That is not true. Are you kidding there are volumes of studies compiling data on marriage going back to the 1800s. The hard data is there on marriages and divorces with lots of publications m in mining the data to hand out advice?

The worst thing that a man can do is seek out a rebound relationship. It is a way of running away from the pain. If you do that you are setting yourself up for an even worse emotional state later on. Deal with the pain, wallow in the misery, focus on honesty to all as a way of being true to yourself. You do this and you will heal

Divorce is a personal hell for men at least. We don’t share our emotions with each other but instead have an emotional outlet of one our mate. When it ends we lose the one person that we had any real emotional connections so the loss cuts deep. All one can say is that eventually you come out the other end but you won’t ever be the same person.

What she discovered is that the men that are out there that are willing to date her age group are for the most part losers and weirdos and the grass is no longer greener. I was married 18 years and same situation as you. Five years after she wants to reconcile things and work it out. We have remained on good terms primarily because I bite my tongue and don’t respond when she baits me or says some things that make it out like she is the one wronged. In America, the system is structured so that a woman is able to leave her husband and her standard of living stays the same or in some cases improves. Most of her friends are divorced and supposedly going out and enjoying their lives so much more if they are to be believed. 90 percent of college educated couples divorces are initiated by the woman. The system makes it difficult for a man to stay married when it seems like a woman has all of these incentives socially and financially to leave.

I read this in Reincarnation Blues. A guy was on a fishing trip in the Florida keys but the real reason was to get marriage advice from the captain of the boat who had a reputation for being a local wise man. The guy, he sold carpet for a living didn’t know what to do about his loveless marriage. He said that it is supposed to be the little things that make up a good marriage but his wife doesn’t do the little things. The wise man asked him what he thought the problem was? Guys second guess, can be persuaded to change their minds. Woman by the time they leave have relegated you to the dustbin. It has a lot to do with the fact they are much more pragmatic and tougher emotionally than men. When a man ends his relationship he is ending a lot of times the only person that he shares his inner thoughts with because men don’t talk about their feelings with other men. When a woman ends the relationship with her spouse she is cutting out the one person in her life that she…

American woman have unrealistic expectations of marriage and when it isn’t the fairy tale life that they imagined as little girls they blame you. They had unrealistic expectations and because you couldn’t live up to the fantasy that they thought their life would be once they married. Six weeks for me but when I knew that I wanted a divorce I did all the research and presented her with alimony, child support numbers that were higher than average and more like a 60/40 split on assets. She signed off on it because it was better than what she would get in court.

Spend $250 on arbitration and you and your wife can split the money that would have gone to attorneys
/r/Divorce_Men20/04/24 02:21 AM

Divorce is so straight forward that if you and your ex can be reasonable you don’t even need an attorney. It is 50/50 in every state and child support is based on income and these days kids split time with each parent and alimony averages per state are all listed on the web. I’m an attorney and I just don’t get why people spend a fortune to end up in the averages that they would have had a judge issue without you spending thousands.

We were the first democracy since Ancient Greece so our government set up was created to prevent a tyrant, a king from subjecting the people so States retained power, exclusive power over issues that don’t impact interstate commerce, immigration, military. The courts over the years have granted the federal government more power than what was originally intended but schools, marriage, divorce and many other issues are exclusively managed by the States.

You are not different than most except that you are more honest, in tune with your emotions. Several of my friends from University got divorced within a few years of each other after 20 or so years. If you do decide to petition the court to modify the divorce decree remember that you need to come across as sympathetic and likable. Dress nice, don’t show anger no matter what. You won’t gain points by saying negative things about your wife. The woman will often make accusations that are not relevant to the issue before the court. Don’t let her bait you.
/r/Divorce_Men14/04/24 10:57 PM
2

Note - you see an attorney ,blood sucker like me, and he will encourage you to take her to court because that way he can get paid. Behind your back they will think that it is a coin toss on whether you will walk away from the court revisiting the judgement in as good a situation as you are in now let alone a better one.
/r/Divorce_Men14/04/24 10:41 PM

You are spot on that a lot of women have the attitude “f I hate you so you owe it to me to pay and suffer.” Problem is that the court can only do so much and they aren’t going to wade into issues of one party not following the divorce decree to the letter. The only thing that the court can do is find you EX in contempt of court and issue jail time or fines and they aren’t going to do that for the infractions you described. You will spend more money on attorneys and the outcome like I described a…

I have even seen the reverse where the ex wife felt like the monthly payment was too low but the judge saw the amount of time kids spent with the Dad and instead of raising the payments he reversed the payment requirement so that not only did she not get more money but had to pay him in the future. The lesson learned here is that the courts have a prejudice against the party that is contesting the original judgement so you better be dam confident in your position before going back the court.

I don’t practice law in Texas and family law is State law. However, I would warn against taking her back to court to reevaluate her income and ask for a lower monthly payment to her. Let’s face it you are a man and the expectation is that you will make more money and the court is already predisposed to have the man pay the woman for child support. I have seen this type of situation before where the man goes back to try and get a lower payment because the ex is making more money now to only see i…

You are spot on. The law is the law is the law and whether someone cheated, kicked the dog or kissed your sister doesn’t change that it is 50/50. If married for x numbers of years your state has average alimony based on marriage length and income. Child support same thing and custody will be 50/50. Apparently, this isn’t unusual. When we got divorced the house was under water and I kept it. I had never taken her name off the title and she thought that it meant that half the house was hers. When I went to sell it I offered her 30k just to sign over the title which she refused to accept. It is still “no fault” divorce, that just means that one doesn’t need to prove that the marriage is broken and irreconcilable to get the judge to issue the divorce. You will almost always do better if you can avoid hiring an attorney and fighting it out. You are not going to have a judge have you pay less just because she choked you. Arbitration is the most cost effective approach to divorce at around $250 total. Be generous, reasonable and flexible upfront so she sees no reason to get an attorney and you will save a bundle. Fight over who gets the nicer car and go 100k in debt. Yes, I think that I was in a different situation because I am an attorney and would tell her years before we had problems stories about how stupid married people were to spend thousands on attorneys to get divorced when the law is so straight forward that a couple of 10 yr olds could resolve the details during recess. That instead they get these blood thirty attorneys that I knew rich to get the same result that they could have had with a $250 mediation cost if they absolutely insisted that they…

You have the right attitude and the “24 hour” thing is fantastic strategy. I try to always treat her like I do my kids and that is to avoid criticisms and remember to find something positive to say about them and ignore and forgive the hurt. You seem like a good person and the pain goes away or rather it mostly goes away.

92 percent of college graduate couples it is woman that initiates divorce. The system is set up so that the woman makes out very well in divorce so that is why marriages end at such a high rate. I initiated my divorce so maybe that is why it turned out well because I had time to emotionally and strategically plan for it rather than have it thrust on me.

I’m an attorney and you blew it by letting it get to this point. You should have made her an offer that made her not want to go the attorney route

Well you and I went through the exact same thing. She never felt and has never felt guilt for cheating on me and always took for granted all the financial help I gave her family but you have to look at it like this. You aren’t going to change her but you can create a post divorce relationship that is best for you. So you hold your nose, you forgive her and you always take the high road and eventually you become friends and the anger and hard feelings go away

Even if you are justified, especially if you have been wronged you need to take the high road. I used to tell myself early on that I would not get baited into an argument and be nice and pleasant no matter what. Eventually me being generous and nice won her over and now we genuinely are good friends

Well the woman is always going to be difficult and you just got to tell yourself that you have to find a way to make her happy because she is the mother of your kids and if you lash out at her you are really hurting your kids.

If you can keep in mind that you loved this person and treat them with love even when it is hard to do so because you are in pain well things will be so much better. My wife cheated on me but I have never broight it up again and I don’t mention anything that I’m upset about re failed marriage. I take blame most times early on just to avoid fights

We got divorced ten years ago and it worked out fine. We are good friends and we never formalized when kids would be with whom. They stayed me during school year and in Summer i would pay for their Mom and them to stay with family in Europe. I’m an attorney and nothing is accomplished by getting attorneys in a divorce other than give the attorneys lots of money. 50/50 isn’t exactly complicated and the Internet lists average alimony’s based on income

Well when my wife and I got divorced we sat down together and discussed what the law says. It isn’t complicated 50 /50 with alimony and child support averages online. We sat down and worked out numbers and spent $0 on attorneys. If you can both be reasonable then why get attorneys. I figured it was better to be generous and avoid cost of attorneys.

31 isn’t old. I had my first child when I was 30.

My ex wife get along fine without any ugliness but our divorce was not normal. 92 percent of divorces of college educated couples are initiated by the wife. That is so abnormal that one knows that woman are encouraged by the system to call an end to marriage. I initiated the divorce because she cheated on me and because of that I didn’t feel deep seeded anger towards her

The second case that all attorneys learn in the USA and UK is a man that sued to have his money returned that he paid a witch doctor to cast a spell on his wife to die. The judge ruled that the contract to kill his wife was an illegal contract and not valid. He then convicted him of attempted murder and had them both hanged. Ha ha

Sorry but that is not correct. The UK and the USA share the same Common Law and the controlling case goes back to the 1300s in the UK. In the USA the first or second case that all attorneys learn in contracts first year of law school is a man that asked a woman to marry him. He broke off the engagement and he wanted the ring back. The judge ruled that a ring is “consideration” for an offer of marriage and is a contract. If she had broken off the engagement she would be required to return the rin…

Sorry but a ring is not a gift. I’m an attorney and you have the law wrong. Look at my earlier post that discusses the controlling case on engagement rings from England in 1300s

Now my wife is a good mom and she never abused me or anything. I mean she punched me occasionally but she is a buck nothing so it isn’t like it hurt really and i would just try not to laugh which would make her angrier. She has a bit of a temper but overall she is a good person with a good heart. She just cheated on me constantly and my pride wouldn’t allow me to maintain the relationship b/c of it. I think it would be easier to get over if I were n. Your shoes and she had been a bad mother or n…

No it never really gets better in my opinion. Your dreams died with the marriage and it never feels good again. My problem is my ex is the funniest person I have ever met, gorgeous and perfect except that she cheats on every guy that she has ever dated or in my case marriage. How do you date when every woman out there isn’t as funny or pretty or intelligent as she is. So I love the one that I’m with but I will always love her and have that empty feeling in my guy and this was 10 years ago.

Well if you had yet to be married she would have been required to return the ring or the value of the ring and if you had sued you would have won. If you were already married than the law treats it the same as a car. You were entitled to 5k, half.

I’m an attorney- see the above comment that states what the legal duties are on her regarding the ring.

In the USA are laws are Germanic and the controlling case for rings for engagement go back to a case in 1300s. The man gave a woman a ring and asked her to marry him. She broke off the engagement but kept the ring arguing it was a gift. The judge ruled that the acceptance of the ring is for a contract of marriage. If the woman breaks off the engagement she is obligated to return the ring. If the man breaks off the engagement than she can keep the ring. In this case we have a marriage. In Oregon …
