You’re just wrong. I’m baffled that you’re so focused on physical attractiveness when you could be focusing on other aspects of life. You need to focus on improving your self and building a social circle and community and good things will follow

This is so wrong. People do look for attraction to an extent, but your status, education, and wealth play a huge role. Just anecdotally, so take it with a grain of salt, I know multiple couples who have broken up because their 26 year old boyfriend has no prospects or skills. Finish college, work hard, and get some hobbies and you’ll be fine. Yes, attraction matters, but it’s not everything

Because there was no need to legally have marriage for the lower classes as it was designed for the wealthy to transfer property and legitimacy of power. And I have no issue with the idea that normal people in ancient history pooled resources together to strengthen community and familial bonds. However, that’s not at all what you wrote in your main post. You wrote that that marriages in ancient history were more similar to sugar daddy arrangements of today than actual marriage is. Get offline an…

To be honest, I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here. In your main post you suggest that historically marriage lacked love and was a practice rooted in the advancement of one’s children and wealth. This is true but it only really applies to wealthy elites. That’s all, full stop, end of story. The lives of common people sort of sucked and constant backbreaking and monotonous labor was a daily feature for the average person. Whatever marriage arrangement they had does not in any way apply to …

Marriage, as you’re referencing, was intended for wealthy elites to secure property and legitimate transfer of power. Normal people are hardly mentioned throughout history so none of what you’re saying really applies. You’re not talking about the average person, rather you’re focused on practices built for wealthy elites

I think you’re pretty disconnected from how actual households work. Most families have labor done by the parents, and occasionally that’s supplemented with paid help.

It’s a suggestion to do social and active things. I only that lifting weights was boring for me. I found value in cycling and rock climbing with friends. That’s all. Don’t read into it too much

All I’m suggesting is getting involved in physical activities that are social. What’s important is social activities and community. Outdoor activities involve a lot of that but they don’t have to. To be frank, lifting weights can be boring and I find there a lot of men doing things like going to the gym and they’re lonely and depressed. I think being around friends and strong community is what’s needed.

While it’s true your parents shouldn’t force you to go camping, if that’s what your parents do every summer then that’s what the kid will do. If you play music, then it’s pretty likely your kid will know how to play a little music. We like the things we’re exposed to and sometimes kids will refuse that stuff, but if I go camping every summer from 2 years old and up then that’s something I’m doing with my time that becomes a part of me.

It’s your parents job to socialize, teach you skills, and provide opportunities for you to develop those interests. We learn a lot from how our parents act. So if you have social parents that are charming, have friends, go to social events, etc., then you’ll pick up on that and internalize those skills. Next, your parents need to ensure that you’re getting a lot physical activity and learning skills. Did they give you piano lesson/guitar lessons? Did they take you camping, or put you in a soccer…

What I want to emphasize is that a lot of “toxic masculinity” behaviors are reinforced and encouraged by men. I think that you’re confusing toxic masculinity with confidence. Confident men are definitely considered more attractive and usually that confidence comes from competence in skills, and sociability is a skill that comes with practice and age. My example of the Sopranos applies here too. The Sopranos is replete with men whose toxic behaviors damage their relationships and families. I thin…

You should! I’m not sure where you go to college, but I live in a midsize city and we have two huge climbing gyms in our city. Plus my college had a small rock climbing wall and the wilderness club would organize outdoor excursions for outdoor climbing. That’s how my girlfriend and I met actually. We were both into a lot of outdoor activities so our interests worked well together. If you climb 3-4 times a week then you get strong, stay in shape, and it’s more exciting than a fucking dead lift in…

Posted this to one of the top comments but I want it here for visibility too: I think men actually do this to themselves more than you think. A good example of this played out in story would be the Sopranos. Tony goes to therapy, nobody cares but his crew; in fact, tony is more concerned with how his crew will perceive him. Tony’s wife thinks no less of him for going to therapy. Tony has a gay member in his crew. Tony admits in therapy that he doesn’t care that the guy is gay, but is concerned t…

I’d recommend to stop going to the gym and get a membership at a climbing gym. It’s so fun and active and when you have a good belay partner and some bouldering buddies then you have a rich social circle. Chicks dig climbers

Well you’re in college, so you have plenty of time. If you’re actually hanging out with girls in social circles then just make a move. If you think you’re not good enough, we’ll I’ve got news for you: you are

All you did was link a Reddit post filled with anecdotes. I’m not even sure if half those comments are from people with real experiences. Truly, most successful people with active social and romantic relationships are active socially, have hobbies, went to college, usually do exercise through social activities. Go to a climbing gym and hike, not the gym to lift weights. Go kayaking and pay music with your friends, or play tennis. Just do something that is socially active with friends - don’t jus…

The same can be said of this post. The OP is using vague generalities as evidence of a systemic issue.

So can you tell me why it’s so important to cultivate sexual attraction? Obviously, that is how we attract a mate, but I’m a little concerned with this sub’s desire to promote how tos for getting laid/and or a partner. The reality is that if you build healthy habits, have friends, do social and active activities then you’ll likely meet someone you’re attracted to which you can then develop into a healthy relationship. I met my girlfriend in college through mutual friends. I’d go out with friends…
