it does, in fact, get better; but you gotta help it along. but if you’re looking to compare me now to that version of me? MUCH better.

You’re being strung along, and you not setting boundaries enables it. Get a lawyer and file. You also cannot control what she tells the kids/people. So try not to worry about that bit. Just retain a lawyer before anything else.

nobody wants to talk about their shit. but once you do, stuff makes sense and you feel better. your gender has nothing to do with it. it’s healthcare, that’s all. nobody’s freaking out because you went to the dentist. talk to someone, brother.

do you work for a company that provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)? If you don’t know, ask HR. There’s often free legal and mental health assistance, for a few appointments. It might be enough to get you started.

i know this sounds like a weird question to ask. for readers, it can inform how close a person is to acting. a person with a plan needs help asap.

i felt the same. told a friend i felt like i was experiencing all emotions at once. the first month is a blur. then a couple of weeks ago i started to feel calm again. not normal, but calmer. listen to the advice you’re getting here. find a friend and don’t be vague with them… “i need someone to check in with every couple days… can that be you?”

I was a day away from posting in this sub about how frustrating it is that all the responses were "she's cheating" because I was certain that wasn't the case for me (though ALL the other indicators were there.) I found out later that night that she was, in fact, banging another dude. It's so pathetically predictable.

Trazodone. Old, generic antidepressant that only succeeded in making people sleepy. Take 30” before bed. Wake up with zero hangover. Doctors don’t mind writing it because it’s not habit forming, is cheap, and works.

hmm… you recognized your daughter needed therapy. are you also seeing one? or even an md re: intrusive thoughts?

simp isn’t a thing. that’s self-derogatory nonsense. you do need to understand why you ignored red flags, but labeling yourself shouldn’t be part of that process.

i think there’s no reason to assume her attorney has any of your interests in mind. refer them to your new attorney.

No. If there’s one thing ive learned here, it’s that this is a dumbass idea.

well, yeah, there’s that. by the time i was done it was around $92K paid. i didn’t really care. i understood that was “the price of admission.”

Weirdly, I was close to posting something similar. “Hit the gym!” means nothing if the last time you were in a gym was in high school. It’s intimidating. Give specifics! Hit the gym and….? What? I’m early 50s and way out of shape. Not obese but “flabby” (to quote hans and frans). National chain gym? One better than the other? Do I just walk on a treadmill? What’s etiquette like? For me it’d be like if you said, “Play ice hockey!!!”

ahhhh! i’m in early phases (haven’t even had 30 day status hearing yet) and I keep having dreams where a nice version of my stbxw reassures me. “everything is gonna be okay…” then i wake up and remember she’s fucking another dude. it’s so twisted, the brain.

I’ve been having this conversation with a friend of mine. Like a club. We contribute. When someone is in need, they receive help. Not a nonprofit, necessarily, just a local entity that supports the eventual nee members.

I’m mid-divorce and have a friend that checks on me daily and it’s everything. I look forward to it. He empathizes when things are shit (like xmas day) and makes me laugh when they’re not. Call your buddy, ask how he is, and listen.

I was feeling similarly about my stuff, but a few comments on this sub have convinced me to ditch almost everything and start over. I do not want tokens of our marriage any longer. Art, cookware, knick-knacks, furniture, whatever. Done with it.

three or so weeks ago i was trying not to cry at a bar (don’t. i know.) doomscrolling along and i thought, “there’s gotta be a sub for this….” i’m so glad you’ve taken the time to nurture this community.

did you live together for financial reasons? my sbtxw first tried to me to leave by today (a week ago). lawyer said hell no. your house too. camp out. i think’s frustrating her christmas plans, but that’s not my issue.

I’ve started the packing process and this comment made me adjust my view. I’ve dragged prized possessions (antiques , shit i coveted) inherited from my late drunk awful mother through two awful marriages. it’s time for me v2, and that’s not going to include tokens of the past.

I’m week two and your month one description was so very on point. I’ve even already been divorced before, but in that case my ex and i hated each other. i was ready. sad, but ready. this time… holy shit. i cry. i cant eat. i cant sleep. feel despondent. started therapy yesterday and that was pretty helpful. buddy of mine has been clutch. daily phone calls. my attempted calm down mantra is ‘your life will get better.’ thanks for the post and its optimism.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
