Also, you have to factor in the fact that different crimes have different conviction rates and it's possible that not all convictions are counted the same (example, being acquitted of 8 charges but convicted of one minor charge). Murders have a high conviction rate while rapes have a much lower conviction rate (obviously people don't lie about being murdered but clearly people do lie about being raped). He said she saids don’t really fair well in criminal court because of the doubt. That's a myth. Many sexual assault/rape cases are he-said/she-said with little collaborating evidence and there are plenty of convictions in those cases. If you can show that "sex" happened (and the accused often admits to that), then it just boils down to credibility of the witnesses. Beyond a reasonable doubt does not mean 99% or anything like that. Reasonable doubt generally means a SERIOUS doubt based on evidence brought at trial. Apart from the consequences of being caught, some crimes are intrinsically very risky/dangerous to commit while others are much less so.
