Idk how much of this could or should be done at the federal level. I feel like some of these are more of a state/county level thing. Though there are some I disagree with. Legal paternal surrender I think a legal parental surrender that is equal for both sexes is understandable, but if this is referring to financial abortions, then I disagree. I think the wellbeing of the child should be prioritized and both parents must contribute to their life. I'm fine with parents surrendering their children…

I'm struggling to see what policies the federal government could employ that would uniquely help men, aside from eliminating the draft. I think the most effective help is going to come from cultural shifts and local governments considering things like men-only spaces, unfair treatment from law enforcement and the justice system, etc.

At the very worst women still benefit from "benevolent" sexism, being treated like children, I don't think that's worse than the sexual harassment and rapey behavior geared towards women.

I agree. I think men under report their experiences, and that's part of why women are said to be more often victimized in the sources I linked, along with many others too. There seems to be less of a stigma against women being handsy with men, so I could see the how men are more often the victim of unwanted sexual touching. I could also see the opposite being true since men are more bold and violent than women. I still have an issue with this study though. Is 70% still underreported, or did the …

Don't these numbers seem insanely high to you? I feel like the numbers vary wildly across different sources, but 70% is outrageous. And 40% of men have experienced forced vaginal/anal penetration? That's way higher than other studies. Here'a a few charts from the NSVRC Fast facts from the CDC Stats from the NCADV I'm not saying this study is fake or anything, but these numbers blow all of the others out of the water.

I used to think that, but 90% of titles today are ragebait/clickbait and the body text is usually pretty reasonable. This article is better than the title would have you believe.

I somewhat agree, but your statement is very extreme. All behaviors labeled as toxic masculinity never stem from men trying to fulfill a masculine roll? I am uncomfortable with my girlfriend or wife potentially making more money than me, so I want to coerce her into working lower paying jobs, or no job at all, so that I can fulfill my role as the breadwinner of the house, as the man should. Sure, we'll make less money and live a more uncomfortable lifestye, but my ego matters more. What is the s…

From my examples, you cited possible reasons for those men to escalate a verbal conflict to a physical conflict, and for men to refuse help. They may do that because they were told that's how men should behave, but there could be other reasons. You're right. My examples weren't detailed. Let's say we asked those men why they chose such a toxic way to solve their problems. If they say that's how men should solve their problems, then it's fine to say they were exercising toxic masculinity. Otherwi…

Sure, toxic masculinity is a broad term, but I think it's functional. Some men believe that they have to go to great lengths to avoid showing weakness and maintain their masculinity. An example would be two men getting into a physical fight because they were both trying to assert themselves and avoid coming off as weak in front of their friends. Another example would be a man refusing to ask for help because he doesn't want to seem dependent to anyone. I wouldn't say masculinity is a positive tr…

But the New York City subway system is not segregated, and has far less sexual assault than some of the systems that are segregated. I feel like the segregation is a response to the high levels of sexual assault. Realistically, I don't know how you'd respond to sexual harrassment without simple segregation. Especially in poorer areas. It seems like such an easy crime to get away with.

They hate on boys because they're more aggressive, disruptive, and rambunctious than girls. That's what happens when they're made to sit still in a chair for 7 hours.

That article was an interesting read. Girls started the girl math joke themselves, and it showed a couple tweets that started it. Then some guys started using it as a way to bash women. I don't doubt that, but they probably should have included some tweets showing that. Then, it turned into women going pretty hard on guys with the boy math meme. It's funny how the tweets became less about math the further you scroll. Girls can be pretty mean lol

If women just started doing what we did they'd get paid more. Generally, women displaying assertive behavior are more likely to be looked upon unfavorably. Women are more agreeable, and women that are less agreeable and more masculine are more likely to be treated this way. I think this mistreatment may explain some of that gap.

That's totally ridiculous. It's an insult because the incel community is incredibly toxic and hateful towards Chads and Stacys. They became known as virgins that are spiteful and insecure to an incredible degree, garnering hate from anyone that witnessed their discussions. Those folks made incel into an insult. Imo they still deserve compassion amd empathy. They've just made it hard for people to spare any.

I'm curious about that stat in slide 7 referencing how much refuge is for men. It seems a bit misleading because there's a lot of refuge open to both genders. I'm assuming that number is for male-only refuge and that number for female-only refuge is much higher. How necessary are these male-only refuges? I've no doubt that they're beneficial. I just don't know how beneficial they are.
