I was more referring to the societal bias of seeing men as dangerous and pointing to an example of how feminist ideology reinforces it. Maybe, but my experiences revolved mostly around that societal bias. I reached out plenty, but the vast majority of instances ended up with the people essentially assuming her good intentions (and by association my bad intentions to varying levels). If you look at the research and talk to victims that is a common complaint and I truly belive ideology such as tha…

Do you think that feminist ideology, like that men are taught and rewarded for dominating women, with women being taught to be subservient and are punished for doing otherwise.... plays a role in the negative experiences of male victims of domestic abuse?

"Feminism, the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes" Where did you get that definition? The issue I have is that isn't all of the definition. "Feminism, the belief in social, economic, and political equality of the sexes. Although largely originating in the West, feminism is manifested worldwide and is represented by various institutions committed to activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests." The problem with feminism is it only looks at issues through the fe…

Feminism frames domestic abuse as an act of domination and control. It also states that men are taught and rewarded for being dominate over women, something that women are punished for. So according to this framework who would you think is the abuser? The man? Who feminists say are taught and rewarded for dominating women? Or the women? Who feminist say are taught to be submissive to men and are punished for doing otherwise? Feminism and the narrative they push about domestic abuse, definitely p…

I do, as I said earlier I have no problem with the definition you originally used. However that definition is not how I typically see it used. Typically the definitions have added aspects like the definitions you just now quoted me. And I have issues with the added aspects.

"Yup, but it's not a core part of the definition that is agreed by the community. You can see that it's not the focus of the definition." Ok... but it is part of the definition.... and I have an issue with that "That's fine, me too, but if we fight everything without thinking then it doesn't lead anywhere good." I don't, what I'm doing is pointing out some things I take issue with

"That's a corollary, not part of the definition." One of your listed definitions includes the lines "assigns higher value to men, maleness, and "masculine traits". So it literally is part of one of the definitions you gave me.... "Beware cherry picking one single example, instead look at the community as a whole." I do... but i do have issues with some aspects of that community...

"The patriarchy, a descriptive term for our society where most power is held by men (eg CEOs, senators)." That's just one definition of the term and I would also say the majority of how I see it used is not the way you are using. One example they gave "Attributes seen as 'feminine' or pertaining to women are undervalued, while attributes regarded as 'masculine' or pertaining to men are privileged.". That has not been my experience and im sure I'm not alone. So while I have no problem with your d…

Remember reddits anti hate rules dont apply to men, so being sexist and hateful to men doesnt violate any of reddits rules.

I basically searched for stuff online. On the first page of the website their is this quote. "is it possible to find hope again? I asked She simply said, "Yes" "And I will hold hope for you until you are able to find it again yourself" I still cry when I read it. in contrast to a local DV resource on their front page their is an image of a woman with a black eye with the quote "he promised he would never hit me again, that was three beatings ago" I was only able to find the website using male pr…

I didn't have any luck with and DV services. However I still go to a depression support group I found. The resources I was talking about was more along the lines of people I could talk to. The whole experience was so isolating... I remember driving 3 hours just to have pizza/talk with someone who I felt understood, he also was a victim. The depression support group helps a lot. I didn't find sheets helpful and too many really upset me with the language they used, what I really needed was just pe…

Their is a fundamental difference to assuming everyone is dangerous vs only assuming men. "Is the correct mindset to not care and just let whatever happens happen?" No, protect yourself... you have the right mindset "cautious of everyone around me". I think about it as if the rule I create to protect myself applies to everyone than I'm not doing something wrong. I'll give you an example that might apply to you...instead of not being alone with strange men... that you shouldn't be alone with some…

If you have a dish of berries, and you know a few are poisonous. Yes not all berries are poisonous but it's safer to treat all of them as poisonous and not eat any. Some women apply this logic to men, they don't know which men are dangerous so, better to act as if all men are.

The most traumatic thing for me was how 90% of people assumed her good intentions and somehow I did something to "deserve" it. When I tried to get away she lied and said I was the one being abusive and people believed her. I was forced to "prove" I was innocent despite no evidence and she didn't have to prove anything despite me having significant amount of video/audio, text, email, phone records documenting her abuse. This prejudice as so prevalent that I was denied a divorce hearing (from a no…

"how can an adult not tell a child is a child?" Your comment implies that he knew the person was 14. I would consider a person fucked up if at 19 they knowingly tried to hook up with a 14 year old, are you saying they wouldn't be? Maybe you didn't intend to imply the guy is fucked up... but you 100% did.

"Whether you're a man or a woman, you can't defend or justify hooking up with someone who just entered high school or is still in middle school when you yourself are at least a college freshman. Even if they lied, there is a huge difference between how a high school freshman acts and how a college freshman acts. Not to mention, how can an adult not tell a child is a child?" At a college party I was at, I was talking to this girl who I discovered was in high school and I was only able to tell unt…

But I don't know how I feel about actual rapists getting off scott free either. I'm sure the mentality of this sub regarding false accuser you have such an issue with probably stems from a similar mindset. They are so harsh on accuser because they don't know how they feel about letting a false accuser get away Scott free. Innocent until proven guilty is often messy, and guilty people will get away with it as a result. If you want individuals to only judge accusers when their is evidence to indic…

"I just asked people to consider that the other option also leads to innocents being hurt." I read what you wrote.. You made a comparison... millions of people suffering vs one.... are you saying that millions of people suffering is better than one? Also false accusers don't just lie once in their life and stop... chances are they are false accuser because they are habitual liars/manipulators and will/have done shit like that a lot.

I don't know, making the case that it's better to jail an innocent man than let a guilty one go free, while simultaneously arguing that when dealing with women making accusations to wait for evidence to make a judgment... I would consider that very troll like

So women aren't false accusers until proven guilty, but it's better to jail an innocent man then let a guilty one go free? It seems like you have a double standard, or am I misunderstanding?

Sounds like your advocating for guilty until proven innocent... because it's better to treat a innocent person as guilty, then treat a guilty person as innocent.

Top comment, "Men are afraid of women laughing at them. Women are afraid of men killing them." Generalizing about a group in this way is an act of denial. Their are lots of ways to deny issues a group faces without explicitly saying it.

I'm not upset at the article for talking about women's issues... again read my comment Also the article explicitly talks about more funding for women... so... the fact that the increase in boys is explicitly excluded is something I should be ok with?

I think your missing the point as to why OP is upset. Not that they are discussing women but because they aren't discussing mens. This is just another example of women's issues getting coverage and I'm still waiting for ANY mainstream acknowledgment of ANY gendered issue men experience. But I can point to multiple sources that say men DONT.

The feminists that I know support mens mental health and parental decisions on both sides. Their are many types of people who identify as feminist many simply do it because of quotes along the lines of.. if you believe in equality than your a feminist.. The people that the individual's here are referring to (and take issue with) here are largely those who call themselves feminists because they adhere to feminist ideology. Feminist ideology looks at societal issues from the female perspective and…

"What is it about Social Media that leads you to be thankful it wasn't used? " The fear is something will go viral or an employer etc will do a google search and the accusations will pop up and it will be there forever.. if that happens your onky recourse is a defemation suit,, which is difficult as you put it. "Defamation is a poor substitute for protection against gossip and hearsay being used to damage, because it requires deep pockets, which itself has to be a discrimination in the fair appl…

My ex didnt accuse me of rape, but she did lie about a bunch of stuff to manipulate the divorce proceedings. Proving something didnt happen is impossible. The only thing I could do is move out and not interact with her. I also documented her abuse, which continued after I moved out. But all that documentation doesnt prove I didn't abuse her, it just proved that she was abusive to me. Thankfully she didnt go to social media or anything... if she did, the only thing I could do is sue her for defam…

I understand but why limit the message only to men? Why gender it? "some men cannot control their physical behavior when they get mad." Ok so why not look at why some people cant control their physical behavior when they get mad? Why only look at why some men cant. "male aggressiveness and anger is seen as acceptable" This is a good example of what I'm talking about. I'm assuming your saying tends to be more acceptable? But even if that is what your saying, it wasn't my experience. In fact in my…

I agree, but framing is important. Their are a multitude of crimes which a specific group does more then the other. But should we frame terrorism as an issue of religion? Or should we frame violent crime as an issue of race? I just feel that framing murder as an issue with men reinforces a negative stereotype of men as dangerous. If your looking at the core of the issue, why is a persons sex relevant? You mention motives, why not talk about those? A persons sex does not indicate their motives to…

You stated that the issue is who are committing the killing, stating that it was "men" or the sex (the group membership) of the the people doing the killings (the bad actors).
/r/AntiFeminists04/06/21 03:35 PM

But why frame the issue that way? Do you think that focusing on the group membership of a bad actor is appropriate?

All my life really, the moment that really opened my eyes was when I was trying to divorce my abusive ex. The arbitration court refused to hold a divorce hearing, actually telling me that we need to accommodate her. When I refused to comply any longer they immediately scheduled a hearing, stating she deserves one.... thankfully she got arrested and I agreed not to comply with the prosecutor if she would comply with the divorce proceedings. But again, her needs came first... her not spending any …

With the erosion of gender roles for women, I find it interesting when people still stick to the gender roles for men. Sending the message to women that they have no responsibility to men, but simultaneously saying that men have many responsibilities towards women is the definition of inequality. I think the appropriate question is, if it isn't appropriate to teach girls to protect boys. Then what should we teach girls as their responsibility to boys? Or do you think that only boys should have r…

Much of feminist ideology is descriptive about society, my issues specifically though is when they talk about how men are socialized, but more specifically stating how women aren't socialized. For example, statements like men are socialized to dominate women and women are not socialized to dominate men. Or men are reinforced for domestic abuse by a myriad of societal factor and that women arent, the list goes one. "why feminism is unnecessary" Depends on your definition of necessary. Women face …
