You sound dense ignoring the fact that whether they are 4 months in or 2 years in she had a traumatic event that will impact her for a while. A few therapy sessions are the least they can do for him to understand what she’s going through and how to show up better in the relationship for her. Sex will likely be a process so yes therapy makes total sense. Literally any guy moving forward will have to deal with this situation in some way. Sexual assault leaves a scar on a person that doesn’t just h…

He’s selfish? Look at what he’s doing for her. Most men in whole marriages aren’t as attentive. There’s nothing selfish about the desire to connect with your partner. What he said was gross but we can’t completely ignore his feelings in the situation.

OP, I just want to say that I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. The SA of course, but also feeling financially bound to a man who disrespected you. I hope that you two can have a conversation and decide whether the relationship is worth saving or if it’s best for you two to part ways. You asked us what we would do in this situation, but ultimately you need to do what’s best for you. I’m new to posting on Reddit, have had the account for years but never really engaged or commented. I’m saying thi…

This is reality. Yes. He was cruel. We don’t have to dehumanize him to prove what he said was disgusting. She’s going through a lot right now, and his words were probably like salt to that wound. You’re missing something though. It’s idealistic to believe a man is not looking for sexual gratification while actively taking care of his partner. It’s a hard pill to swallow, at least it was for me, but they are not wired like us. They view sex in an entirely different way than we do. It’s tied to th…

I agree, a lot of issues on both sides and she may not even be ready to be in an intimate relationship as of yet. But since they are together, he should support her healing process. It’s so easy to point the blame on him and without considering how he’s feeling. I think as a woman, it can be difficult for us to understand what men feel, especially as it relates to sex or not having it. It’s how they bond in the relationship, it’s not just sex for them when they are actually invested. They are se…

She asked the question “what would you do in the situation”? I wouldn’t break up with someone because of something they said in anger. Especially when he’s meeting my needs and I’m not able to meet his. His feelings of sexual dissatisfaction are valid even if his outburst was unkind. You can use inflammatory wording to describe him all you want. Have you never said something hurtful out of anger? Did that make you a beast who viciously attacked someone? Get real. Someone who I would describe as …

You sound dense. You’re not taking into her condition into consideration… SHE WAS RAPED. Him going to therapy with her is more for her condition and for him to understand her needs than it is to work through major relationship problems. His remark is highly likely due to him not having sex for months. The same way if you fell in love with someone who was a recovering alcoholic you may follow them to AA meeting. The least he can do is give her support by going to a few therapy sessions with her.

“What would you do in this situation?” I would go to therapy. Couples therapy with him and DEFINITELY therapy alone. You have a lot to work through and if you don’t work through it, it’ll carry you into your next relationship. When it comes to being with this guy in particular, there seems to be more pros than cons. His rude remark about your vagina not working, could stem from sexual frustration. Not to discount your feelings or to validate his remark, but I think it’s important to understand w…

You’re welcome and I’m happy you’re making the right decision for you. I think women wanting a man to regret how he treated us is so common but it’s an unrealistic expectation from someone who willingly and gladly did you wrong. He won’t wake up tomorrow or in 10 years from now and realize the decisions he made were unkind. He already knows that now and doesn’t care. That was a pill I had to swallow a long time ago. Be glad you got away from him and enjoy your life. Congratulations on your pregn…

I’m so sorry you’re going through this OP. If I were in this position, I think I would take his actions as proof of how he truly feels about me and as fuel to rid myself of any feelings I still have for him. He isn’t someone who seems interested in having a healthy relationship with you and may be a nightmare to co-parent with. In terms of keeping the child, this is something you need to truly think about. It’s not an easy decision and it will affect you for the rest of your life either way. If …
