This stood out to me as well. Giant red flag. OP, if he really wanted you and 'L' to get along, why is he not doing the most to ensure you get an invite to the party?

Thank you for your valuable thoughts. I've seen you post on other posts and you always have very helpful feedback. The promiscuity happened between 2016 and 2017 immediately following a breakup. I was distraught and seeking external validation. This ex was a text book definition of a narcissist although I hate using that term lightly. He did introduce me to hedonistic practices. Drugs, alcohol and lots of sex. He was also really good at putting me down and gaslighting me. So I guess at the time,…

Thank you for your reply. This is very valuable feedback to me. I respect what men may feel about it and I also appreciate there are men who will accept me. I think I need to accept myself first though. I fear I will find a man and revert to old patterns of chasing the unavailable ones so I will stay away for a bit and try focus on myself. The promiscuity occurred between 2016 and 2017 and immediately following a breakup and on and off until we got back together in 2018. I've only had 2 intercou…

I will have a good read through some old posts. I'm sure there will be very valuable feedback I can there as well. Not heard of 'matching luggage'. I will check this out too. Thank you. I learnt how horrible and icky I felt after these one night stands and very quickly realised it wasn't ever going to make me feel better! So I'll never repeat it for sure. I guess looking back, my friends were all doing the same and it felt normal. I'm a bit upset that I allowed myself to fall in with the crowd l…

This is very true. There is a certain amount of shame I feel about it. So I need to work to make peace with my past. I will think of ways to do just that and be more present with my current identity. I'm not that girl from the past who drinks heavily and makes these kind of mistakes anymore.

I definitely need more guidance. I will check our the nun mode on here. I've never heard of that. I'm in safe territory right now and not seeing anyone, but I've got some things to unlearn and heal around my attachment. Specifically why I feel the need to consummate every connection in an attempt to inspire commitment. It does not work! As has been clear in my most recent dating experience. It comes from a place of anxiety. Like if I give them what they want, they won't leave me.

Thank you so much for this advice. I am endevouring to stay celibate now until I am in a committed relationship because I do not want to still feel this way in 10 years time. I certainly don't want it to rack up further just because I felt like I needed to seek validation through sex like I have in the past. I've not had much dating experience as I was with my ex for majority of my 20s so I need to learn how to date to find a relationship. Not just date for the sake of it. I'm staying away from …

You are missing the highs and lows of the insecure attachment from your past relationship that was toxic. This is an incredibly addictive cycle to be in. I'd strongly suggest therapy as you will sabotage your relationship to create these feelings you crave. Now I do feel that spending almost all of your time with an SO is not going to inspire that sexual craving for one another the same way it would when you live apart. Have you considered changing jobs? Something that gets you out of the house …

This is pure wisdom! Saving this post in case I ever find myself in a similar situation in the future.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
