I’ve never really liked the “progressive” argument that people should just shut up and listen to minority groups. The problem I have with this line of reasoning is that TERFs are advocating for the restriction of trans people's rights. Their beliefs don't just stop at the rejection of trans identities, they are actively trying to make life worse for trans people with their political advocacy.

I'm sorry, but no. Dave said that every person who was born came through the legs of a woman. This is just wrong, some men can give birth. Trans men can and do get pregnant. While I cede the point that people should be able to learn without an environment of hostility, you have to understand that “just asking questions” is a common technique of bigots who don’t want to own their positions. Alt-righters do this all the time, they love “just asking questions” about race and IQ. And there are absolutely statements about trans people the should be considered transphobic. Oftentimes they are motivated by ignorance but that’s still not a valid excuse.

I don’t think someone has to hate trans women to be transphobic. That can be part of it buts that’s the the bare minimum. Dave Chappelle doesn’t think trans women are women. THAT was the transphobia. It could come from ignorance or malevolence and in his case I’m inclined to say he’s just a ignorant boomer who doesn’t understand the difference between sex and gender. But being bigoted because of ignorance doesn’t ask him not a bigot.
