What exactly is your goal? Just to sleep with as many women as possible? I don't mean to offend even if it is. I'm just curious, because it seems from what you're saying that the quality of your interactions with girls doesn't really matter to you at all.

I've only made an OKCupid profile once for a couple of weeks before I changed my mind, but reading this makes me realize that I made a number of "mistakes" on it without realizing it, or at least that I didn't really take the appropriate amount of time to think about what I was writing. I'm definitely saving this as a reference in case I ever do decide to try OKC again. Thanks!

Thanks! I did follow the instructions, and I'll definitely try using this in the future. I can see how having an "anchor" for this sort of thing would help to get into the right mindset.

I think that you pretty much nailed it. I do often find it hard to get into "social" mode once I'm at parties, bars, etc. It seems mostly luck of the draw, depending on how I feel that particular day, or what's happened leading up to it. While I wouldn't say my conversation skills are bad, I would definitely like to improve them, especially when it comes to small talk with new people, etc. I often draw blanks unless there's something interesting I actually want to talk to people about. Handling …

I suppose. I probably unintentionally created a lull in the conversation by drawing my friend's attention away and then not providing anything new. There was likely a critical moment where I should have made a comment, asked a question, or ejected myself from the situation. Instead I guess I just sort of stood there and nobody said anything. Whether it actually reflected poorly on me or I just thought it did, I think that I'm getting a better idea of the way I should have acted.

Yeah, I'd say that's probably an accurate assessment.

I suppose you could say that I was just trying to socialize. I didn't really know what the situation was yet, but my friend is a very touchy-feely sort of guy with a lot of female friends. My basic intuition on this situation was probably just because he wasn't close enough to her or being physical in any way. I guess maybe I should try to think about things more in this sort of "goal-oriented" frame of mind that you guys seem to adopt.

Well, I didn't really have anything in mind, to be honest. I was just sort of checking back to see what my friend was up to, but it would have been nice to make a good impression on this girl. I'd like other people to like me and want to be around me, regardless of whether or not I hope to be banging them later.

I don't think that he had any intention of picking up this girl, but this advice probably applies anyway, so thanks. Saying something positive like that about my friend seems like a fairly non-intrusive way to enter a conversation with the intention of either leaving quickly or sticking around, as the situation dictates.

I guess that I probably should have been more specific about that. I've known this friend for quite a while, and it's usually pretty clear to me if he has intentions with a girl. I had no reason to think that's what he was angling at. I think that she was just someone he knew from a past job.

This is possible, I suppose. Maybe I should have made more of an effort to draw her out initially. Now that I think about it, it never occurred to me to ask her obvious questions like "How do you know my friend?" etc. I just sort of backed off when I didn't immediately get a good response

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
