I'm not sure I see the real connection between pronouns that distinguish gender and gender roles except insofar as distinguishing gender at all makes gender roles possible, because that's what it is, distinguishing gender to have more precision. I'm honestly gonna have to get back to you on that because my brain is way too fried right now to think of reasons why this is bad. They do exist, though. But everything has pros and cons. That doesn't really apply to sterilizing pronouns in the educational setting. Having noun genders for inanimate things actually increases precision too. In English, we call a book and a table "it", but in French it's "he" and "she". They're notoriously annoying for non-native speakers of the language (while gender in pronouns for people isn't), but they do add precision.
