In upper middle class and middle class girls are encouraged to be 'good girls' repress their sexuality. In lower class communities the girls often see themselved as 'bad girls' and therefore more openly sexual. I think this is the Madonna/Whore complex, but not 100%

Lack of education, cultural factors make it lower priority in different sectors of society.

That means he shouldn't have sex if he's not willing to deal with the woman's choice not to abort

And has also taken that choice knowing he has no control in the outcome if she did become pregnant

The father could also not have sex if he didn't want a child...

So I'm failing to see how it's all the mother's choice?

Yes, but the cycle of poverty is a cycle for a reason. I honestly don't know why governments wouldn't subsidise abortion. The only reason I can think of is that those in poverty are used as an example of what not to do and fill may end up filling working class jobs etc.

Maybe they do. Personally, it made me into a stronger person who wouldn't be walked all over. It made me realise a lot of problems in my upbringing, problems that had been recreated in my present relationship. No amount of counselling or trying could allow us repair these differences and grow as people.

I wouldn't say all men are like anything. Just like all women arent like anything.

Yes, as a middle class woman I would, too. If I didn't have it, I would have friends who would lend it to me. Well what if you were unemployed or had a very low income and no one you knew could lend you that money? What if the people who did have the means would not pay if they knew what it was for? What if you had no way to pay back the loan if someone did lend it to you? These issues are far more complex than they appear and as a society we could be doing a lot more to support women who do not…

I didn't make the system! I agree, it will collapse catastrophically. But that's outside of the politicians lifetime so why would they care?

Ok. So I looked into it. In Australia it costs 700 to have an abortion, and they aren't always simple to access. Then you have the mental health consequences of an abortion, which as a woman who hasnt had one, can't even begin to comprehend. Particularly for those people who have had religious upbringings. I am a single mother, but guess what? They have a father, too. A father who chose to bring them into the world just as much as I did. Yet I am often judged for being single, while doing the ma…

It does become an economic problem when there are no workers and an aging population. Less tax payers = less infrastructure, less people to work in aged care etc.

In many places abortion is illegal. Two people are responsible for contraception. Also abortion isn't a simple thing. It's has massive psychological consequences that many women carry for the rest of their lives.

Exactly. It's always the mother's bad choice. The cousin in this example is human who has never been held accountable for any of her actions with parents who continually rescue her and enable her selfish behaviour. Married parents. Gasp

Marriage certificate for IVF...really? If a woman wants a kid badly enough to pay 1000s of dollars to have a baby I think they would be able to find other means.

I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine doing it on my own with 8 kids! You must have super powers!

Exactly. Many people are dishonest when dating and hide the darkest parts of themselves. Sometimes this side comes out with marriage, sometimes with kids. Having kids changes you, sometimes in ways that make you no longer compatible. People change. People get sick. People die.

"Not only that but I didn't normalise bad relationships." Thanks for that reply, that was one of my biggest reasons to end the marriage. What kind of blueprint is that for kids? Better to see happy parents as 'normal' than unhappy ones. I have a new partner, my kids haven't met him yet. I am not likely to introduce them soon. He has made the choice not to have children of his own and we have already discussed that we will not live together, and he will not take any financial responsibility for m…

How much of a Mom and Dad do you think they had when we were both deeply unhappy? How much of their Dad did they have when they didn't even see him for 10 days at a time anyway? Their relationship with each of us is much stronger now because we actually enjoy our time with them. As a person who's parents stayed together 'for the kids' I can tell you, as a generous estimate I had a 5% Mom who barely got out of bed and 2% Dad who was a workaholic/alcoholic and barely saw us.

It's not easy, no. I chose to bring them into the world so I try to do my best by them. In hindsight, their father and I were not suited to have kids together. We agreed on nothing in parenting, household or finances. My kids are smart and funny and weird but overall awesome and they have taught me so much about myself, I wouldn't undo it even if I could.

I am a single parent with three kids. It isn't terrifying at all. They stay with their Dad about 25 % of the time. It's much better than when we were together as I have time to be an individual and persue my own interests. We had no support or help with the kids prior and I was doing the majority of care for kids with no breaks. In Australia we have quite good financial support for single parents plus child care subsidies, I am probably better off financially than I was before. I will finish my …

Or they are both contributing to raising the family and the household in different ways.

I don't think it's really prostitution though. I mean how many married couples are having regular sex. The person 'at home' is providing unpaid labour that is not valued in society. Ie cooking, cleaning, childrearing. If both parents work then they may pay an outsider to complete these tasks. It's about what works for a couple, what works for most would not be this traditional model. It may be both parents working part time. Clear open communication goes a long way, and is what is needed - what …

Address the gender binary. All people have masculine and feminine traits. Some women would much prefer to work, some men would love to stay home and raise kids. Whatever works for the family. I don't want someone else's money. I enjoy working, I definitely want sex. Happy to live alone and raise my kids solo.

I think you really shouldn't have let women become educated, that's when it all started to go horribly wrong for you....

I don't ask either. I find men ask eventually. Sometimes I say I'm 6'5 to see what they say. I did go on a first date with someone significantly shorter than me because we didn't exchange that info. Not sure if it was the height, the rogue booger or almost crying when talk about his ex that meant I wasn't keen to see him again.
