There are some very cool and fulfilling things we can do in science careers, but I'm not sure being an academic is one of the ways to earn some good dollars. My ideal situation would be to apply all the knowledge and skills from Science / PhD into something related and in high demand (software engineering for Neuroscience perhaps?).
