How many carrots did she have in the smoothie? I wonder if eating one large carrot a day would be overdoing it.

If a girl wants to fuck you, a simple "let's go have a drink at my place." will do just fine. How is that any different from the coffee maker thing? I guess I didn't really say how the line was used, but the coffee maker was a running joke over the course of the night, which is why I brought it up. We were making out when I stopped and asked if she wanted to come over and see it. The intentions were obvious, but it was funny because I was acting so excited about my stupid coffee maker. It was th…

Yeah, I've gotten that impression as well. She's cute, but I've already lost interest because of her rude texting. When I texted her asking if she was still on for Friday, I was partly hoping for a flakey answer so I would have the green light to make other plans. I don't really believe in canceling plans with someone unless I really have to, so I feel like I owe her the date. Hopefully she has the same philosophy.

One of the best and simplest pieces of advice anyone ever gave me on getting to know shy/quiet girls is to remember to ask why? questions whenever you get the chance. I don't know if your biggest problem was getting her to talk or not, but it always helps to ask things like "why is that your favorite movie?" or "why* are you studying sociology?" These can really force an otherwise reserved person to open up to you and reveal pieces of their personality that can lead off to other conversations mo…

This is a pretty interesting suggestion. I'm not religious myself, but I've always envied churchgoers for the apparent sense of community they share.

I'm using flaking here to mean changes of plan, but it had all of the signs of an intentional flake. Vague, non-committal language during the planning process; long periods between responses; waiting until my confirmation text to tell me about her change in plans.

Could be. She flaked by saying she had family friends at the house. I gave a pretty nonchalant reply like "okay, have fun then!" She ended up texting me an hour later saying "I'm sorry :/ I'm serious too!" I just said "shit happens!" And she hinted at rescheduling, but my being out of town Friday apparently didn't work for her. Hm, now that I look back at the situation, she probably really was trying to get me to reschedule. That or maybe she just really was bored at work. She finally responded …

To me that sounds like the sort of thing that would be cute in real life with the right tone of voice, but it's pretty easy to misread tone over text. I've often made the mistake of being too witty or subtle over text, but I probably end up sounding like a douchebag just because it's hard to read my tone. This is why I tend to write pretty dry, direct texts these days.

I must be a robot. What does this mean? Does that mean they want to hang out, or they are just bored and really just want to say hey as simple as that?

I agree, but hey, at least I tried. Your language learning game is ingenious. I should have tried that to get some physical contact going. And I thought my "you are very beautiful" thing was smooth.

Yeah, if she wants to see me again I'll do that. Sadly, she never responded to my follow-up text, so I may have screwed it up worse than I thought.

Maybe so. I think going in for a kiss in this situation would have been weird. Like I said, it seemed forced when it happened. If a date goes particularly well, I usually say something like "hey, come here" and do it. If she's funny, I'll say "so... You know, I've never kissed a [profession/nationality] girl before."

This is something I've also struggled with. I think that my best advice would be to admire those kinds of guys rather than see them as some kind of competitor. Speak well of them and be genuinely interested in what they have to say. Do they have some kind of trait of experience that you envy? Try learning from it to make yourself a better person.

Depending on where you live, touring a local brewery can be fun and potentially free. Besides, why doesn't love drinking beer on a date?

I've honestly never had any luck meeting a girl in a club. I've just come to accept that there are some kinds of people who can meet girls in clubs and other kinds who can't. And the more I think about it, what is the point of meeting a girl in a club anyway? You know absolutely nothing about their personality, and seeing a girl in normal clothes and normal lighting will make it much easier to tell whether or not you're actually attracted to them physically. I'm a good-looking enough guy who has…

I think studying abroad in a country implies that you've studied the language for years beforehand. Most study abroad programs I'm familiar with require reasonable proficiency in the language before they will even consider your application.

I'm glad to see this pop up. I've done plenty of interesting an unusual things in my life, but I very rarely talk about them to other people. I've been backpacking through countries many people have never heard of, and travel has been a big part of my life, but I don't feel comfortable bringing that up around people I know haven't. Something about talking about it just feels arrogant, and I have no way of knowing if the conversational partner has any way to relate.

Funny that this thread popped up today. I recently had a girl come over, and we ended up kissing on my bed, and horsing around. We were looking into each others eyes at one point, and she jokingly asked out of nowhere, "did you take drugs before I came over?" I just laughed and said, "what? no!" "You swear?" "Not that I recall, I didn't." "But your pupils are huge! I guess that means you're super attracted to me." That's the first I had ever heard of a correlation between pupil size and attracti…

Yeah, I never understood the idea of pursuing a girl who says she has a boyfriend. If she mentions one, it is because she, (a) has a boyfriend, or (b) wants to suggest she isn't interested in dating you. In either of those cases, it seems like a dick move to keep pursuing her.

Good luck with the English, though. Hungary is the most monolingual country I've even been to.

Oh, don't worry. If porn has taught me anything, you can just put your hair in pigtails and maybe put on some colorful socks and you'll instantly be indistinguishable from any 18-year-old girl.

Actually, I prefer it when girls repeat "YEAH? YOU LIKE FUCKING THAT FUCKING 18-YEAR-OLD PUSSY?" over and over for the duration of the sec act.

I texted her today around noon saying "What do you people do around here besides (local bar)? We're having trouble finding much else to do for fun in this town!" I sent that not expecting a response. About 30 minutes later I check my phone to see "Hmmm.... Enjoy the nice weather! That's one thing you can definitely do in this town :)" About an hour later, I said "Well, we have that in North Carolina too! :)" Maybe she'll respond to that, maybe not. I can't say that the conversation will go anywh…

Thanks for the sound, well-explained advice. Maybe texting her Sunday afternoon would be good? Nobody is busy on Sunday, so maybe she'll be more willing to make plans for later that week or even just shoot the bull. I hate to keep asking you questions, but you have given the best responses so far. What's a good idea for a text message? If it doesn't seem very pointed (hey! how's it going?) she may think the next text will be to ask her out, so she may not even respond. It needs to look like I'm …

Even when I was asking for the number, I knew I shouldn't have been. But I was determined to go out and try to meet some new people. The bar was closing, and even though we had just met and barely talked, I wanted to get a number because there aren't a lot of opportunities to meet new students where I am. So what should I say in the text? Is there anything I can say to get her interested? I'll probably wait about a week before I send it. And no, I'm not necessarily interested in hooking up. She'…

It's probably been about a week since we met. We were friends at first, then we just started ignoring each other. That's strangely been happening a lot here... I actually made a move tonight. There was a costume party and she was wearing some sort of Indian-looking garb that made her look like that girl from that really famous National Geographic photo. I told her that, but she wasn't familiar with it, so I explained it to her. I thought I had succeeded, but then it quickly got weird. Maybe she'…

Oh, I am exaggerating. But I must admit, she's quite a cutie! Lebanese too! We've already covered most of those topics, unfortunately. The thing that bothers me is that we don't even really talk anymore, so it feels weird to just now approach her and bring up a subject. Did I really sound too romantic? That was probably me trying to avoid getting all of those stupid "be more alpha" responses and get real answers.

Thanks for the helpful response. I'll see what I can do. It just seems like it will be hard because we've basically been ignoring each other recently. Maybe I really did make her think I didn't like her. But I don't know, I've still been coming up to her to say hey.

Eh, I'm not exactly sure yet. I just saw her a second ago. We basically ignored each other. She was an "interest" of mine. At the moment, I just want us to have fun again so I can decide what I think of her.

The quiet-looking, petite girls I see walking alone on my college campus. It makes them look like they would be more open talking to me when they're not yapping away with four similarly-hot sorority girl friends. I also like the idea that they might not have made a lot of good friends on-campus yet, which makes me think that I would be a good friend to show them around. Alas, as approachable as they seem, I'm still too shy to say hi to one :(

Russian girls are very good at making you feel connections that don't exist. Really? I've only met one Russian girl in my life, and she was the coldest girl I'd ever met. Definitely one of those one-word-answer types who are so hard to hold a conversation with.
