This is the reason that when someone yells "But so many children accidentally kill themselves with guns every year!" I can cite previous years statistics and say "only a handful died from accidental or negligent discharge, and they are dwarfed by the number of accidental poisonings from household chemicals." Falsely accusing someone of sexual assault is a terrible crime that not only ruins the life of innocents, but damages the merit of the real victims, making their search for justice that much harder.
