One of the best things that I did to survive my divorce was find ways to redirect your energy. You have a toddler who loves and thinks the world of you. Spend your energy on being the best dad that you can. It sucks being stuck inside an unhappy home; take your kid to the park, the library, out anywhere you can. Use this time to build happy memories of the two of you. You got this.

Here's another thought...do you want your kids to grow up seeing their dad (who sounds awesome, btw) in a loveless trainwreck sham of a marriage?

Same here bro. I mean, for my budget at the time, it was cheap. But in the long run I don't have to worry about it.

I don't think that makes sense at all, especially if you want 50/50 custody. They are trying to circumvent that.

I don't think I could. For the most part, I enjoy my job (until something better comes around). I want to be by my child, family and friends. It would be nice to add to my social circle, but I can do that at home.

If the two of you have everything written/agreed to and this is just to formalize it, you should have a quick hearing. Just stay calm, be polite and prepare to move on with the rest of your life.

At the time, I was kind of bummed that she didn't want to take my time. After a divorce, I'm glad that she isn't associated with by name to any more. Small victory, my brothers. Small victory.

I kind of agree with this, especially after going through an awful marriage and coming to the realization that marriage, in a sense, is really a financial merger.

All my life, I struggled with finding a sense of purpose. I had friends and family but truly felt alone. My career, well, it was a career. And even my ex-wife. I stayed by her--and married her--knowing she was a bit of a train wreck. I begrudgingly accepted that she would work on herself as I was with myself. Boy was I wrong. She just descended into turning into an abusive, gaslighting monster. But having a kid is the most important thing in the world. I'm a dad first. My kid needs me just as mu…

Dude...life is an endless series of reinventions of yourself. Today sucks; I'm sorry. But you know what? Tomorrow won't be. You can do this. You have a whole life to live.

Unfortunately, I've learned this is the case. Unless the other parent is a monster in a legal sense, they can just keep being a dick.

Unless it is in your decree, you don't have to pay the fee. It's one thing if your son asked for money towards car insurance in lieu of a gift, and you gave him cash for that. But other than that, you are on your own.

I think this falls into a category bigger than religion or not. Basically, that parents aren't allowed to schedule activities during the other parent's parenting time. The fact that you've allowed your exwife to do something with the kids on your Sundays is completely based on what you want. You don't have to have this codified.

One of my friends told me that the other side of a divorce is like graduating college in the sense that you now have the ambition/drive to do new things. Go for it.

Pre-nup on the beginning. That said, maybe? Hopefully? Possibly? I know it sounds silly, but I hope so. My ex-wife has spent so much of this divorce trying to hurt me, taking whatever she can from me. But she damn well won't be able to take away my ability to be loved by someone, to reciprocate that love and to be worthy of being loved.

Hey brochacho! I'm in a similar position and I'm going to answer/share advice to points from your post. It's easier this way.... I’d like to go ahead and rip the bandaid while the kids are still young (oldest is not even 2 yet) and won’t really know a life when we were all a family. One reason I know I’m ready is because that sentence doesn’t even pain me to say/write anymore. I do however have anger at myself for letting things go this long, that even though it may be better for my wife and I i…

Five years younger/one or two older. Mostly because I would like the possibility of having a second birth child.

Sorry that you are going through this. That is a lot to deal with; just take things one day at a time. If you have a hobby or something that makes you happy, please make time for it. Your kids and mom need you.

Dude...it's the hardest thing in the world. It's kind of the logic I have about the Dave Matthews Band. They fucking suck, but some people love them. My ex is a terrible person, but for now, my child has a good relationship with her mother and has no idea how much hurt/trauma/evil she has inflicted on me. I'm struggling with this. Like if there was no child, my ex would completely be cut out and erased from my history. Unfortunately, there is this child that I have to protect at all costs. For n…

I know this sounds corny, but I'm grateful for my coworkers. Every one of them knows that I've been spending over two years in three circles of divorce hell. They probably know more about what is going on than many of my friends. And they always ask how I'm doing.

You know what? Less involvement from her, in regards to you and your two year old, mighe be for the better. Sorry you are going through this.

I can see why you are so bothered by this situation. I give you mad props for being such a good stepfather to your 8 yo. Your STBXW is nuts. It looks to me that aside from her not wanting to be a good parent to the 2 yo, that she'd rather cast him aside to you to cut herself off from you. You are right to be mad. That said, your 2 yo is better off spending more time with you (and spending time with your family). She'll have to figure out how she is going to reconcile things.

Oh, I totally agree/understand that. Like now I feel more alone, in the sense that I don't get to see my child every day. But as far as marriage is concerned, I didn't have a partner who cared about me at all. It took me way too long to realize that. It's kind of funny, as I go through holiday decoration boxes I find Christmas cards that I received from her over the years. I remember when I received them, I felt that they were somewhat hollow. Like if she really cared about me, she wouldn't trea…

It sounds like you were in a shitty marriage, and your ex-wife was definitely abusive. Because you aren't married to her anymore, this is her way of finding a way to still abuse you.

Good for you man. I totally know what you mean. My wife would constantly make fun of my interests and try to hold them against me. Like, if I wanted to go to a concert, she would weasel her way along and make the experience completely miserable for me. And then she would complain afterward that we would only do things that I liked. Never did she offer an alternative or plan something. Or she would hold it against me. Like the time I did a triathlon only for her to hell at me that I was trying to…
