1	Oh, really? I must have been imagining parts of my childhood this entire time. (X-Post from /r/rage) The idea goes like this: You have the word "man" which may or may not have just referred to people in general at some point. Anyway, it means dudes now. You have "woman" meaning "of man" which has all manner of crazy implications wrapped up in it (e.g. the relationship between creator and created, the assumption of men as the default, women as "other", etc.) So, to disentangle these notions, the simple solution is a new goddamn word without these notions attached to it.
