Yes, that's true too. Actually at first I thought my ex was very caring towards his family, but then it seemed evident as time progressed he was just trying to portray himself as a loving brother. He really didn't care for their well-being at the end of the day. Regardless, abusers can treat their family and friends like gold, but still abuse others.

Oh god if this wasn't my ex. "I want someone who speaks their mind". Nope. You want someone who agrees with everything you say and compromises only on your behalf. He only used that excuse when things weren't going his way. He would always say I was the one causing communication issues or that we probably just had different ways of communicating.

This is exactly the issue I dealt with in my last relationship. My ex would also mention why I didn't bring up issues right when they happened, but sometimes I couldn't think of it in the moment or didn't want to say it in the heat of the moment. I think I feel alone in the sense that no one will ever know how badly he treated me. To everyone else he seems nice and normal. Emotional and verbal abuse doesn't seem to be taken as seriously. If he had physically abused me, he would have been shunned at school/work, but because it was mainly emotional and verbal and behind doors, no one knew anything. That's why I feel so alone. One of his classmates knows in a sense, but it's not enough for people to see him in a different light.

Issues will come up, especially when you are figuring out one another in the beginning stages of a relationship, but you should still feel loved. You should still feel like you matter. You shouldn't feel fear or anxiety wondering what you're partner is going to do or say next because of what you said. That is not what a person who truly loves you would make you feel.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
