Admittedly much smaller, but I bought some stuff to start classes and off handedly mentioned that I’d like to find some stickers to make them look nicer. My bf over-nighted me a package full of stickers, pens and other supplies with a sweet note. We are separate a lot for work but he’s always doing little things that brighten my day.

I was downtown at the park (cute doggos and getting my steps in) when a girl approached me and asked to use my phone. Realized there was a guy behind me and I was literally in the middle of a domestic dispute. He screamed some names at her and stormed off and I offered her a ride since she was super distraught. She told me he’d hit her but “he’s really sweet when he’s sober”. I tried to give her a lot of the advice I’ve found here and gave her my number in case she ever needed help again. She ca…

2.5 years post divorce - I moved across the country to an adorable town for work, my savings has increased tenfold, my apartment is quiet and clean, I’ve reached a fork in my career where both options are equally phenomenal (and neither would have been available had I stayed tied to dead weight) and I can weigh the benefits and decide for myself instead of having a whiny man-baby moan about how I make so much more than him. (Not hard when he’s unemployed) I joined a local run group and completed…

Years ago I had someone try to get through my window when I wasn’t home. They took off the screen and opened the glass but never made it through because my 170lb dog jumped out at them. 10/10 good boy, he was happy as a clam in the yard when I got back and whoever it was was long gone. It was scary at first but now I laugh at the mental image of someone being surprise-tackled by a dog the size of a football player. The same dog caught a mouse at one point and was gentle enough to pick it up with…

“Nice” is such a low bar though. What is nice? How is he nice? He’s putting conditions on your bodily autonomy. He’s stated that he feels the need to voice his opinion and take his stand on medical decisions of women everywhere WHO HAVE NO RELATION TO HIM. Has he adopted any of these children he is professing to care so much about? Or is he all talk? I’d find someone new.

Uhm. WHUT. First off, he’s wrong. Boobs/bras don’t work that way. Second, bodies CHANGE. That’s what they DO. Is his narcissistic, arrogant, self-important ass going to look exactly the same at 70 as he does right now? Than why the F does he feel like it’s acceptable to concern-troll you about your body? ALSO. Who cuts someone down when they are having a moment of confidence? That’s not rhetorical- I’ll tell you who. Someone who knows they don’t come close to measuring up so they attack you to k…

I told my ex why the relationship I’d had before him ended. From then on, any conversation turned into “You’re just trying to hold me accountable for his mistakes!” Like, no. You’re just being the same lazy, unemployed, slob that he was. So glad I found this place.

THATS SO FUNNY because as it turns out, A man is at his highest worth if he’s never arbitrarily devalued a woman. The first time he arbitrarily devalues a woman is when he loses the most worth, but he continues to lose worth every time thereafter. Remarkably, some men continue this pattern well beyond what they can be appraised for and end up in the realms of negative worth.

Look at how he treats other people in his life (mom/siblings/etc) if he treats them similarly it might just be the type of person he is. It could be love-bombing but I feel like he would be more stingy to others if that’s the case. I would definitely observe and feel it out.

For me there’s 2 types of physically unattractive Type 1- unattractive because they don’t take care of themselves either by being inactive, unhygienic, unkempt, etc And Type 2- unattractive because they simply don’t have the features that I find attractive. They don’t have control over their face/hair/eye color/whatever Both of them are a no from me. The first because I deserve better than someone who doesn’t give a fuck, the second because they deserve someone who loves them as they are.

The best advice I ever got was that you can only count on your relationship staying the same or getting worse. Staying because "He could get better" is like planning your finances based on "I could win the lottery". What changed is that he feels like he's got you and now he doesn't have to put forth the effort he did in the beginning to make you stay. This is the real him beneath the veneer he put on to appear dateable. He attacked your family member over a verbal discussion. How do you think ga…

My grocery bill is 1/3 of what it used to be because I'm not buying Pizza Rolls/Uncrustables/NameBrandChildrensFood for a 30 Year old man. If he threatens to kill himself call the police. He’s a danger to himself and you are not professionally trained to handle someone like that. Let them put him in a psyche hold where you know he will be safe and under observation. (Note: He’s not ACTUALLY going to kill himself. He’s manipulating you so you won’t leave. My ex tried that and all I had to do was grab his car keys and pretend to dial 911 before he started backpedaling and admitted he didn’t mean it.)

Lol if they really believed the woman had nothing to offer than they would move the fuck on. Fact of the matter is they very much want what she has to offer but know they don’t measure up, so they try to “humble” her by lowering her self esteem enough to believe he’s worth her time.

Your sister is wrong. HVM are not some weird monolith that operate on a hive-mind. Different men find different things attractive. It would be like saying HVM only like super masculine guys, you can’t apply a one size fits all label. I met my bf ~6 years after I was done with college and honestly, I liked dating more once I was done with school. No longer trying to juggle work/class/studying made it more enjoyable. - Coming on too strong or trying to move too quickly in the relationship - Inability to keep a tidy living space and appearance - Unhealthy diet or poor exercise habits - No savings or long term financial goals - Unemployed or underemployed - Lack of respectful friendships/family relationships - All of his exes are "crazy" - ("If you meet one bad person they might be an asshole, but if everyone you meet is bad you are the asshole" kind of thing)

I feel like guys say this to simultaneously try to lower your expectations of them while getting you to reassure/grovel over them. Why does he feel like he’s not good enough? What does he have to gain by throwing a pity party rather than working on improving himself?

She’s not “done and dusted” on kids! Hell, she’s already proved to herself she can care for 2 by herself, she just hasn’t realized it. Dump the dead weight and look into sperm donation/fertility treatment by herself and she’ll have it easier than if she kept the dude around anyway! Posts like this make me so sad. Birthdays are supposed to be special.

It’s 2020 lol how’s a whole ass man not gonna know how to cook? On top of that, if he can’t, it raises a whole lot of other questions. Does he still expect mommy to make him food every day? (Yikes.) Does he eat our every meal? (Not a great way to keep a budget.) Microwave dinners? (Indicative of an overall unhealthy lifestyle.) Inability to cook for oneself is a pretty massive deal breaker for me.

You know that feeling when someone tries to convince you to do something and you feel kinda bad so you say yes because you don’t want them to feel bad? Realize that the person doing the pushing not only doesn’t feel bad, but they’re literally taking advantage of the fact that you do feel bad. They’re banking on it so they can use it against you. Now when someone tries to push your boundaries remember that and it becomes much easier to say no. You’re not compromising in a gesture of good faith, y…

If they ask about the scars tell them you fought off a bear (or something else that’s completely outlandish and unbelievable), if they press tell them “None of your business” and change the subject. Anyone who brings it up after that is outing themselves as a LVM and giving you the cue to drop them because you deserve better <3

This! If he’s the type to jump in and set plates/ do dishes/ help cook when he goes home to family gatherings or if you see him go far out of his way to do housework or help with nieces and nephews or if he came from a large family and knows how to contribute meaningfully than it may not be a red flag. Chances are pretty slim ngl, but I have encountered a couple men like that.

I had it done almost exactly 2 years ago! Outpatient procedure, I was in and out of the hospital in like 2 hours, paperwork included. Pain was pretty minimal especially after the first day. I got a week off work but I worked a pretty active job so it could’ve been less if I was in an office or something. The scars are basically non existent, one is inside my belly button so you can’t see it, the other is super small and faded so you can’t see it unless you get weirdly close. (The 3rd was near an…

Nope. IME one of two things happens - 1. He gets resentful that you make more, or 2. You become the ATM/Mama/financial support. Not worth it. Find someone who can keep up with you.

Start by complimenting and picking out the positive things in others. Challenge yourself to specifically find one nice thing about a person that day. Then make it two. And on and on. Eventually it becomes second nature enough that you can do it towards yourself too.

Why are women always expected to “build up” a man who doesn’t know how to act like an adult? It doesn’t make sense if you swap it around. How often do you hear men being told to “teach” a woman basic human functioning or to “Give her a chance because she just might not have learned these things from her parents”? You’re not a charity or a rescue. If a man can’t function on his own send him back to his mama because it’s not your responsibility.

I’m TERRIBLE about feeling guilty/accepting gifts or help, etc. One of the things that helped me was to look at it like this: You know that feeling when you get a small gift for a friend or treat them to coffee and it makes you feel nice to do something for them? Imagine the roles reversed and the person treating you now gets to have that nice feeling too.

GIRL. Your parents are offering this a. Because they love you and want you to succeed and b. BECAUSE THEY SEE THE TROUBLE AND WANT. YOU. OUT. Go. Take their help. Go to grad school. Be with family. These are grown ass men and they will figure it out for themselves. It’s not your responsibility to parent a man almost a decade your senior. Run home and don’t look back. <3

I paid for my own wedding ring. He didn’t propose with a ring, wedding came out of my pocket and the honeymoon (also paid by me) was specifically for him to play in a children’s card game tournament. (Detroit in March? Eck.) But the worst part for me was that I’d asked him to please buy my ring (gave him the size and the link to order it too) and he was too lazy to do that. Women pay for dates too! Make up, outfits, waxing, skin care, hair products, etc cost $$. And women generally pay faaar more for those things than men do. Don’t forget the time factor for getting done-up. The cost of dinner is actually pretty minimal compared to what most women put into going out on a date!

First time I’ll say “No thanks” in a normal conversational tone. After that I go for a stronger “No.” kind of sharply, like you’re scolding a dog. If they still persist I’ll get a bit louder and say “Leave me alone. You’re making me uncomfortable.” Be loud enough that people around you hear and draw attention to him. If there are other women in the class/near by I would ask if I can stay near them for the remainder. You don’t owe politeness to someone that is encroaching on your boundaries.

YES. They put on their best facade and bank on you falling for the sunk cost fallacy. “He was so nice at the beginning and it’s been five years, but...” The best relationship advice I ever received was “Don’t bank on it ever getting better.” If it’s good it can continue being good, but once it starts going bad it’s not going to turn around. Assume it’s their actual habits showing through.

My guy is traveling for work, so I won’t see him. He sent me a really sweet gift (It got here much faster than expected lol) I sent him something smaller so as not to take up too much space in his bag but shipping is not so fast in his direction so I’m just hoping it arrives on time. 🤞 I’ll probably take myself out to eat somewhere, I’d like to dress up a little nicer than usual. I see the intention, but I feel like the operative idea behind the post is the image of the man-child loafing on the couch instead of being an active participant. That’s definitely not an ok set up for me. I genuinely enjoy cooking though, and if my guy wants to come over and try a new recipe with me I would absolutely be ok with that. Granted, he’d be chopping and stirring and cleaning up with me when we’re done. A date-night cooking class would be the same idea for me. I’ve only cooked for my …

Got burned on my first marriage. He didn’t work, didn’t help around the house and in the end took half my assets and seriously damaged me financially. (College of Life charges steep tuition for some lessons.) I definitely feel where you’re coming from though. I don’t see any real benefit to marriage for myself anymore. Not only does he have a solid career/life goals that he’s working for, his friends and his circle are all like-minded, solid people. He’s a good teacher. Hell yes! One thing that helped me after blocking my ex was that every time I felt like I wanted to contact him I would do something I enjoyed that he never wanted to let me do (ex: check out a cute downtown coffee shop, window shopping, visit a museum/exhibit, cook a food that he was too picky for).
