Sure, but what of those who don't see why they are supposed to want to climb mountains? What makes "various achievements" rewarding? There needs to be a why. Don't you know, the new thing now is the quarter life crisis. Everyone's having one.

My whole point is that it is miss- attributed to the transactional nature, when the real problem I suspect is when those transactions ARE cynical. I simply think they miss the difference between a cynical/exploitative and non-cynical/synergistic relationship. So they complain about transactional relationships. It took me a long while to recognize that within myself too. But once I did it all clicked into place. Could ofc be wrong, but I believe it is so.

I'd say it's a miss- attribution, fundamentally I think the real issue is that it is cynical, not transactional. I think if you read their post and comments through that lens it makes a lot more sense. At least that is my personal conclusion.

Reading books was what helped me understand what I was really feeling at least so that I can agree with. But lets not pretend that it's only guys who misspeak or fail to understand themselves. Non-readers deserve some grace too. Being this harsh on them does nothing positive to help them or for anyone to understand others better. Some empathy goes a long way.

I agree, I simply think they aren't able to find the right words and are trying to work with the language that first comes to them. But I may be wrong too and I'm not going to speak on the behalf of all men. At least for me it was the deeper meaning behind those sentiments when I finally understood my own feelings better. All I'm saying is it MIGHT be a useful lense to understand these kinds of posts through for those who wants to do that.

To me it's obvious that what they mean is love that is not cynical. Sometimes it is "transactional" sometimes it is "conditional". But just read it as "cynical" instead to understand the meaning behind it. At least that is how I feel about it personally whenever I read those posts.

I dont really see a way out of it because my carrier will continue to sett it's standards until I achieve financial independence at some future point in time. Until then I am beholden to it. As for women I can indeed abandon that desire if I wish to technically speaking. Even thought I dont find it inn me to actually do that. It's so innate in me and the whole reason I chose to work in the first place was to support a wife and family some day. I dont know where I'm supposed to fit into that whol…

Yeah, that's fair. Though it is a bitter pill to swallow, especially since these things are such innate instincts to want. Having a choice made for you, especially a choice you care about, can be really hard to accept. Even if the choice was made by "nature" or "reality". That makes resenting the standard that has been sett for you against your will an understandable reaction in my opinion. Or at least that one might wish things were different than they are. A desirable end goal with an undesira…

Yes. "Do it for yourself" dosent work if for those who would in fact prefer to not do those things. Some people aren't motivated by accomplishments or duty. Then it's just a standard sett by the outside world that they never chose or wanted for themselves. That is the problem right there.

Yes, "do it for yourself" does not work if you would in fact prefer to not do those things. Depression does that to some people. I'm still trying to figure out why I should care about those things at all, yet I still do them for purely practical reasons. If I could not do those things I would because it dosent interest me, but that's not the world I live in. It's a standard sett by the outside world for me, not my own standard I've chosen or even wanted.

Thanks, this was a great answer giving me lots to think about. I really do need to work on wanting more of the cake, instead of only the frosting. Reminds me a lott of Dr Robert Glovers books. Great reads. My problem is that I dont really see the rest of life as cake, or evne edible yet. Just rocks and dirt. Various forms of work, work and more work. I need to learn to see it as enjoyable, even something to be desired itself. One must imagine Sisyphus being happy, as of now I am failing at that.

Thanks for replying man. :D Loving what you wrote, your insights are really good and I will take many useful lessons from them. However there is one thing I noticed as an issue within myself when reading your reply, it is that competency, skill and ambition are all repulsive to me, and the idea of being valuable for them even more so. I think it's because of two things. Firstly it tells me that I do in fact not have value unless I gain it through mastery. Which is not how I see others or how I c…

It's good to know what not to feel or think about romantic relationships, but can you elaborate on what you think men should focus on or take a sense of worth from instead? I struggle to find any replacements that actually feel real to me. Despite searching for the answers often. Is there more than just blind faith and faking confidence until you get the life you want? I thought the life I wanted was one with a partner and a family. But there is no point in focusing on things you cant control, a…

My problem isnt seeing myself as not man enough, it's being male at all. Dosent mean I want to change that fact about me, but I dont want it to feel like a curse anymore. I feel lesser just because I'm a man and I need to heal that wound somehow. I need to find a way to see it as a positive, to be glad I happened to be born male and to think that actually makes me worthy of love.

Thanks for answering. I'm starting to recognize that my romantic life needs to only be one aspect of life, but that's where my struggles lie at the moment. To figure out how to start to care about other aspects of my life. Everything I've done in life has been motivated by trying to be good enough to gett a girl and a family. I see now how wrong that mindset is, but I'm yet to properly replace it with something new. I need a new goal, purpose and meaning in life. As well figure out how to build …

I completely agree with what you're saying, but what's the path forward for the people struggling with insecurities?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
