Yes, but according to my therapist meds are the greatest factor. I just started working with a practitioner of orthomolecular medicine to get my vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc. optimized.

Had to go to a mental hospital at age 14 (first and only stay) because I had severe insomnia, thought that someone was trying to kill me, people talking behind my back, etc. I only hallucinate when I don't sleep well for weeks but the meds avoid that. Got diagnosed this year with schizoaffective because I suffered from depression and/or negative symptoms like lack of motivation, obsessional thoughts, which intensified after the death of my mother two years ago, which I'm still working on to over…

Yeah, thanks for the reminder. Me having a mental illness is one thing, but it is in my control to not be a victim. Luckily I found trp before a women could ruin my life that way. Have to find out how to use my condition to my advantage, because I have had these moments where I was able to not give a fuck, maybe even due to my illness. I should cultivate that more...

Yeah, if you really want to spend money hire a good trainer when you don't know proper form but even there people look at your form videos online for free. I've reached a plateau after gaining 15 kg, most of that muscle. I didn't even go more than 3 times a week, but I almost doubled my calorie intake. Now I'm getting a personalized plan from a trainer who (looks like he) knows what he is talking about, not some stupid generalized online routine. I partly used money for motivation, but I pay peo…

I'm starting on a long term plan now where I switch my routine every 5-7 weeks. Also my rest days are flexible. Plan it so than you can postpone a workout, but don't skip. Good job on quitting porn, but assume that urges will come back and be prepared.

Also have massive problems with physical touch, I think we need to just do it a lot in spite of us or even the girl feeling arkward with it until it becomes normal. Good job on starting to lift. I have been rather underweight before and with more muscles and improved posture it is a totally different body awareness.

I think he means rather negative thought loops, or those that stop him from engaging in conversation when in a social setting. Filtering and thinking about what you say multiple times before you say it, thinking about something irrelevant to the conversation, not being present,...

Started meditating again. Missed one day. Went to every lecture worth going to. Drastically reduced smartphone usage. Have noticed getting lost in thought more often though. Still did much more small talk than usual. Went to the gym 3 times although I got a little cold. You can always do foam rolling, a light workout and/or sauna to reduce symptoms and keep your habit. Will start a new personalised routine next week. Started writing about my virtues and my future. Will apply Deep Work a la Cal N…

Because you have never been in such a situation, this is completely understandable. When reading your response to another comment, I just thought that you may be in the perfect situation to start massive inner work as soon as you gain some distance from your thoughts. You played the looks and success game long enough and lost at it, besides your looks. So does everyone, if you one does not grow internally. I can't think of a better person that you MUST look up on Wikipedia than Robert "Bobby" De…

Okay so I can only offer help in terms of what I know of psychological issues and medication. If you have further questions ask, but I am just a random stranger on the Internet and not a psychiatrist or therapist. You will see only after weeks whether the anti-depressant your doctor put you on works or not. Contrary to popular belief these medications can work, but as with many drugs there are non-responders, and, as in your situation, they won't solve your problem, but can lift you up enough so…

There is a slight correlation between playing video games and IQ, which of course means that you can solve problems better generally. But if you want to improve you life, real life activities are better from the social aspects alone. After a cost-benefit analysis of say, the activity of playing a shooter, I can't think of a situation someone can be in where he should prefer playing Counter-Strike over something else. Opportunity costs.

Yeah. At least two times a year, for example right now, I spend some days reflecting on whether my actions are still aligned with my goals, check if my goals are still the same as months before, and try to absorb as much life-improving knowledge like here as possible. I worked my ass off during the last months so I did not have the time to browse the Internet on my comfortable desk, let alone contribute here. Will do that with the weekly threads from now on. Aside from that, OP is right in that …

Yes! I even needed to install a blocking software so I could not play during the weeks before exams. While one might argue that it would have been better if I did that with self-discipline alone, why not use the beneficial side of technology to fight the time and energy consuming elements of it. After I passed all of them and I in theory had all the time to play, I played the amount of games that I would usually do in one day over the whole holidays, because now video games just seem pointless t…

Thank you too for the insight and recommendation. According to Jordan Peterson on Quora, conscientiousness, which is one of the Big Five, is one of the best predictor of success that is a personality trait. But IQ is still five times more powerful at least. But whatever increases the understanding of oneself is helpful and thus requires no validation through long term double blind studies to which results every reasearcher agrees. Yep, I also could apply much more of the knowledge that I already…

Nutrition can help you in both lifting and meditating. For example I have tried a smoothie with spinach, blueberries and matcha among other ingredients this week and my mind became a lot clearer. But it's okay if you just stick to lifting for a while, in fact it was the only thing where I did not slack off since November and that alone had a positive influence on other areas of my life. Also, don't worry about technique or longer sessions when building a meditation habit, the only thing you can …

While I also identify with my result - INTP, be aware that some researchers think of the MBTI as not scientifically valid, as far as I know because it places you in a pigeonhole instead of a continuum, and it is possible to change over the course of your life. I've also read a book on the INTP type and I resonated wiith a lot of the advice though. If you like personality tests, be sure to check out Big Five, or even Dark Triad(but be warned, the results here can be scary).

Clean your room, do chores, then learn something (how to meditate, cook, a language, an instument, read,...). I bet there is at least one other thing of which you know that it would improve your life that you can start right now.

Thank you very much for your response. Using apps like Yik Yak might indeed be a good idea, because of the anonymity and it's less time consuming, will definitively try that out. With game, I need to have less logical conversations and get over my fear of initiating body contact. Also need to stop backwards rationalizing stupid excuses after a number close to not text her because she has some minor flaws or I'm thinking "if she is really interested she will text me first". I'm not at that point …

In a book about depression I have read that when you are in a bad mood, focusing on what you do not have in an attempt to improve your state of mind only worsens the problem. In regards to lack of women in my life, when should I actively approach, and when should I create abundance and happiness indirectly through (social) hobbies or engaging in self-improvement, even monk mode? I am at a point in my life where I have gone from 146 lbs to 177 lbs(6 ft 3) and gained self-confidence through liftin…
