I think the guys who are "naturals" and have "game" never needed any help. Since they were teenagers, girls and then women were attracted to them , for reasons obvious or unintangible, and they just took it from there. Guidance or advice or having a mentor won't be of much help. Nobody can really tell you how to attract women. First, every woman is different from every other, so there is no "how-to" manual. It's not like calculus, where there is only one solution to make the equation work. One o…

Girls don't go to gay bars hoping to meet guys. Quite the contrary, they go knowing they WON'T be hit on by guys. It's a fun break from the usual run, and they'll feel very comfortable and well regarded and respected by the gay men. I do very much agree that , whether in a gay bar or any bar, getting hit on by guys is a confidence booster for a straight guy.

If they're attracted to you, it's easy.

Well said and good points. Just to throw in my own thoughts... Contrary to what we are always told, it is success that gives us confidence and not the other way around. We can only be confident if what we are doing has worked in the past. We can improve our skills as you say, experience and repetition are important, but confidence only comes when our approaching women has met with some level of success. What is confidence really? it is the self-assurance that what we are about to do will be succ…

I've been asking this question for years. I have been called everything from cute to good-looking to handsome to gorgeous yet nobody's really ever interested. I don't have that "X factor" or quotient that makes a guy desirable. And "game" or confidence comes from success , the knowledge that women are interested. Not the other way around.

Never got the "liquid courage" thing. I could drink until I couldn't see straight and it would not help me talk to a woman at the next bar stool.

I nudge 5'8' with extra gel in my hair. It's never been anything I've much troubled over, my shyness is a far bigger obstacle than my height. Obviously I'd be as awkward with a woman considerably taller than I am as she would be with me. I have not yet tried a dating site.

More easily said than done. I think it's about how you are in that very moment. How do you feel at that moment? It's odd that the more I think about the situation, going to a bar or club, what to wear, dealing with my hair, etc, I get more self-conscious and thus less confident. On the other hand, another time I went straight from a restaurant to a club with no time to get prepared, and in an hour was necking with a woman at a table -- with a piece of spinach in my teeth, as I later discovered. …

Good question. This week at the beach I was sitting near a woman who kept smiling but looking straight ahead or downward. eyebrows arched, not on her phone but just smiling and once or twice glancing my way while shifting on her towel. This went on quite a while. Is smiling but not looking directly at you a sign of interest?

One of the best was when I blurted out, not my style usually, "How's your Cosmopolitan?" at a club in California. The woman, a kind-of Cate Blanchett look-alike, playfully lectured me up and down that it wasn't a Cosmo but a Crantini, big difference. Some other patron sat on the other side and chatted her up after that, but while talking to him she looked back and smiled and winked. Turned out to be moot, it was the band frontman's GF . Lesson learned, but still the opener worked and she respond…

You care, and it matters. I have felt the same way for a long time. Rejection is rejection, and your first thought is "another guy who has what I lack was successful." I have been exactly where you are. It's a jolt. And maybe we take it too personally, but to take it in stride is not easy.

When a trip to the bathroom is the most exciting part of your night at a bar, that's saying something. Instead of standing there listening to him explain why he wasn't interested in the women, I'd have gone back out and tried to talk to some of them.

If you are at a bar or club alone, isn't it pretty much obvious to one and all why you're there? to hook up. And, yes, it can make a guy self-conscious, like he's kind of desperate for something to happen.

Bingo. There is a correct and straightforward answer. If you had to wonder, then... no she isn't. I learned that hard lesson a long time ago.
