I’m going thru one just now man. I cross this bridge on my way to work every morning. Recently the rain has been really heavy so there are some days when it surges like crazy and others, when the weather is nice, when it’s still and calm. I keep reminding myself that that river is like my emotions. If I were to make my decisions in life based on its condition one day, I could never hold to that decision on another. If my heart is the river, then my mind is the person on the bridge who looks down…

My wife controls my whole life with her ocd. We went to counseling where I vaguely referred to the ways she restricts my life (you wouldn’t believe). During counseling she was quiet but after we got home she read a letter a friend sent me just saying that he thinks I’m doing a good job coping and she started stomping around saying that I shouldn’t have made her look like the bad one and why should people think you’re the victim? Later on the night while I was sleeping she woke me up with the sam…

Thank you brother. Telling you to get a divorce feels like me telling myself and I think you know and I know that that’s what is best. I don’t have kids but I did work in a kindergarten for five years and saw a lot of different families and I can tell you this, staying together for the kids can be very destructive. There are times when a narcissistic parent, abusive parent, mentally sick parent etc. can seriously damage a child’s growth and their future perception of what a healthy household loo…

Why can’t we just be in a mutually beneficial relationship without all the legal red tape of ‘marriage’. If it doesn’t work just break up. I’m really starting to think that marriage as we know it is becoming a thing of the past.

We are living in Japan (she is Japanese) where the divorce process (if mutual) is nothing more than filling out a form at the city hall so I hope we can settle it between us. I hope you can get through the divorce soon. OCD really drags things out. I often think it’s like trying to get a days work done on an old bug ridden computer when everyone else is on the newest model. You just get left behind.

Thanks. She is diagnosed and has been getting treatment for servers years now. Because we moved house and the place where she washes her hands changed I am now able to use the kitchen. There have been a few other pleasant changes because of the change in environment but I still can’t use the toilet, take a shower without her supervision (which lasts over two hours), have sex, go outside or come inside without her supervision (when she is in bed I am not allowed out). I have made the best of it a…

We have been going to therapy for almost three years now and although she has made some admirable lifestyle changes, I can see that she is still not facing the illness itself. I am sure it is connect to some childhood trauma and perhaps with the right kind of counseling she could get over it. But the fact is that she shows little signs of changing and I can’t go on like this. We are both 33 and there is a chance that we could both make a new future for ourselves. I don’t want to wake up at 50 or…
