I don’t believe this at all. When I was addicted to heroin I stole so I could escape the hellish withdrawals and I felt fucking awful about it. I even wrote the person a letter explaining why I did it and that I planned on paying them back. I did pay them back eventually. Felt so guilty I actually paid them back double, selfishly hoping it would alleviate the guilt but it did not. Maybe I’m just such an asshole that I don’t know what it’s like to feel truly sorry, but I think I do...
