The question asks “what do women get out of relationships with men?”. I am answering it by talking about how I feel about relationships with men for me and my current perspective. That does not mean men are the only source of love. I love my mum, my brother and all of my rescued animals. I’m not sure what you are getting at with this question?

I’m in my 20s, and as someone who had a turbulent childhood, I will always choose stability. I can make my own adventures without seeking them out in a potentially stressful relationship.

I see the benefit in the right kind of love with the right person. But for me, men have hurt me too many times, so I am happy to remain celibate for the foreseeable future to learn how to value and prioritise myself and not be dependent on a man. I also don’t want a man to take away my freedom, abuse or manipulate me, or take my money. I am 29 and I have been voluntarily celibate for 6 years. It is the most liberating thing I have ever done and I am happy. I don’t need anyone but me to be happy.

Women need mother and father figures too. They are indications of what a son or daughter should look for in a future partner. If a daughter misses out on a mother, she will lack nurturing the same as a son, which is damaging. If a daughter misses out on a father figure, same as a son, she will miss out on guidance in terms of a what a man should be as a future partner, and a son will miss out on guidance as to how he should treat future partners. To imply a daughter needs only her mother and not…

People, both men and women, go into relationships being attracted to who the person is but expecting the person to change in order for them to commit to something more long-term. I think this is a common dating mistake where we should just take people for what they are and not be too ambitious in our expectations of them to change into what we want in the log-term.

I agree that weddings can be incredibly narcissistic, but I think post-partum depression should be taken a little more seriously. It’s related to fluctuations in women’s hormones in relation to pregnancy. This should be treated with respect like any form of depression instead of related to something as frivolous as having a party. I think these American wedding traditions are rather outlandish and antiquated though and women that are involved in them need to be less shallow and materialistic.

I think women have to be more scrupulous than men, because there is more risk involved with sexual interaction, but I agree with what you are saying.

Hello Static Nocturne, I know what you mean. I feel the same from the female perspective. I see some bad men getting good women and some really really lovely, kind men with some very bossy and unpleasant women. I find it frustrating when in my relationships I endeavour to treat my partner as an equal and try to be respectful, but some of my female friends can treat their boyfriends rather unpleasantly, eventhough they are lovely guys. It’s like most things in life; rather unfair.

Yet another blanket statement on here declaring that no man has ever said this. I have offered an opinion, if you don’t like it you can calmly disagree without swearing, getting angry and telling me what I should and shouldn’t be doing. Thread over for me, I will not bother continuing a conversation with people who get angry when someone has a different opinion. BYE

I can’t imagine flirting being invented. Most likely a behavioural adaptation in relation to courtship in our ancestors. As for mind games, women are often stigmatised for being too direct; women who come on to men are often seen as promiscuous or unattractive because there is no thrill of the chase for the man, according to some men I have discussed the topic with and other male opinions I have read. These are all primitive behaviours which I do not necessarily agree with. I think women and men…

I agree. I also agree that exactly the same could be said for men!

I see your point about desensitisation but from my observations it seems more linked to personality than gender. I really can’t stand blanket statements like “men think this more than women” or “women do this more”. Gender isn’t all that we are, i agree that can can influence certain behaviour but not to the point where it is noticeable and distinctive enough that the majority of one gender do it. The human brain is far more complicated than that.

I don’t see any benefit to men labelling themselves as nice guys or bad boys. Men are too complex to just fit into one category or the other, same as women. Actions are a better indicator of personality than anything else. But it is impossible to do that on Reddit. So you are left trying to describe your whole personality in a few short sentences. Hence the use of these phrases, which are too reductive. So a catch 22 where people are trying to understand human nature but using terminology that o…

I don’t understand how women (or anyone) can justify openly admitting that they are after a man for his money just so they can have an easy life and not have to work hard. I as a woman take great pride in making my own money and not having to rely on someone else who could leave me and drastically change my circumstances at the drop of a hat. I think this is laziness and lack of motivation and confidence in one’s own abilities. What’s the point in fighting for equality then not valuing your inde…

It seems you are putting the responsibility the man has over his own life onto women. Essentially blaming women for a man’s mistakes. This indicates to me that you already have a negative perspective of women which is a bit of a disadvantage if you want to understand them better. Women go after bad boys to boost their ego to prove they are special enough to change the man into a good loyal man. The same as men try to sleep with as many women as possible as an ego boost to appear desirable. Women…

Her actions seem slanderous to me. I have read their messages and it doesn’t sound very nice what he is saying, but so what? They are no longer together, she can move on and learn from it. Hopefully he has too. I think she is taking advantage of cancel culture and outing people for every indiscretion in order to gain a bit of popularity and sympathy. This kind of behaviour undermines women currently suffering from serious issues of domestic abuse.

Men and women both have egos. I would have thought that was obvious. Women are as multifaceted as men. Some people are more aggressive and ego-driven than others.

Being on more platforms would be making yourself more visible and available, so it makes logical sense. As a woman, I have stopped using dating apps because I kept getting awful, dirty, sexually threatening messages from men. And there is always the added fear of catfishing and safety in terms of meeting up with total strangers. Of course this is the minority, I would never suggest that this is most men. As usual the few spoil these things for the many! Women are probably being very cautious or …

I think this is the female equivalent of men trying to sleep with as many women as possible. It’s just an ego trip. Men get an ego trip by being the man that is the most popular with the ladies. Women get an ego trip by being that one woman that is so “special” and “unique” that she can change the bad guy into a good guy. These behaviours are a modern reflection of primitive human sexual selection. An innate male behaviour is to fertilise as many eggs as possible to ensure survival of the specie…

No one should use anyone for money. But I think using someone for sex is worse as it is a more intimately, invasive act. It takes more trust and there are more risks involved inviting someone into your home, making yourself vulnerable and trusting that you will not contract an STD.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
