it’s simpler than that. ken had more character progression than barbie, which is what people enjoy, root for and identify with regardless of gender. it’s hard to have a hero’s journey when you start at the top and kind of end there as well.

if you take your beliefs in this area seriously, then you owe it to yourself to read that link more carefully than a quick skim. allow for the possibility that you have something to learn. even if you’re not convinced by the evidence you will be better on the other side.

another way to interpret this potential contradiction is to interpret paul’s instruction to timothy in the context of just that: timothy seems to be struggling, and needed some specific guidance. paul doesn’t generalize this to other churches, but we do (and it’s not clear that’s something he intended). guidance about not having women make a scene in service was likewise tailored to that specific issue at a specific church. the church in rome apparently didn’t need this guidance, so we see phoeb…

the greek used there is diakonon, which is translated as deacon or servant. don’t be so sure of what you think you know from some particular english translation.

mostly by men in latter centuries. paul’s letters make clear that there are prominent women leaders of the first century church (e.g. phoebe is a deacon, romans 16:1).
