“Personally, I feel like once you start having separate relationships with other people, are you really building anything together?” It’s more about holding onto what you have, rather than drifting apart (and cheating etc) because of sexual repression, frustration, lacking intimacy. And those things are especially relevant when one partner exists somewhere on the asexual spectrum. My girl and I have already built so much together over the last 14 years... our outside relationships are more about…

Why is it insulting...? Consider how people perceive and talk about neurodivergent people in our society. If someone suggested based on your behavior that you have Aspergers, would you take that as a compliment? A hall pass for degeneracy? Socially subversive? You obviously don’t hold neurodivergent people in high esteem. So autism is synonymous with degeneracy, polyamory is subversive, and polyamorous people are probably autists — got it, thanks. LOL...

Right, so now entering into any new relationship ever (this includes serial monogamists) is akin to randomly taking up a coke habit. The mental gymnastics people do on this sub...

Thats how life works in general. Life happens, and new things take precedent and occupy your time and focus. There are people who will make time for their existing partners, and those who won’t. Just like the jet set executive who never sees his wife and kids. This isn’t a problem particular to nonmonogamy.

I know people like that. Not for me. I don’t like the requirement for both partners to be involved — makes it much harder to find a compatible 3rd. The likelihood they are gonna be really into both of you equally is very low. It can also get weird. Threesomes are often twosomes where one partner is mostly sitting around. It can be a lot more awkward and jealousy-inducing, if you’re not prepared for that. I much prefer separate relationships and sexual encounters. But you need to have very, very …

“Neither of them experience jealousy” — extremely unlikely. People who are particularly prone to jealousy probably shouldn’t be polyamorous, but they also make bad monogamous partners. The real question is how people deal with jealousy, how open/honest they can be about their feelings, and what kind of value they place on assuaging sexual repression/frustration and allowing someone they love to experience kinds of intimacy they themselves can’t share. I feel that most monogamous people don’t und…

Feel free to cite the relevant proof because I’m not seeing it. The first study was quite small, only observed men, and suggests multiple copies of RS3334 = more likely to be unmarried and to experience a “marriage crisis”, not more likely to be polyamorous. The things you are suggesting apply to serial monogamists. I also don’t think the rodent studies can tell us much. Also, autism spectrum =/= Aspergers. It’s insulting enough to suggest we’re all autistic and that’s why polyamory appeals to u…

That’s why serial monogamists seem more problematic re the OP’s first point. More painful breakups, more often, because of an arbitrary need for monogamy.

Drama? No, not really. My partner and I have been together 14 years, we love each other, and we are not monogamous. We are not very promiscuous either. We are simply honest about the fact that 2 people are never going to completely fulfill each other, and that non-monogamy is preferable to permanent sexual repression. Lots of irrational projections in the OP. It’s not a requirement to approach non-monogamy in a reckless, hurtful, STD-infested way.

Some people can handle their drugs. Some people can’t. I wouldn’t generalize like this. I definitely don’t prefer promiscuity over drug use. I prefer people who can handle their shit and aren’t mentally unstable.

Male bisexuality would become completely normalized. In fact, I think that’s where we are headed. Lots and lots more openly gay male relationships. The vast majority of people are bisexual to varying degrees; guys just tend to be closeted and repressed. We’re going to reach a tipping point (between increasing male sexlessness and increasing acceptance of LGBT+ lifestyles) where that’s going to change.

No, it’s just a matter of state law. Less than half of states are purely no-fault divorce states.

Maybe she just wasn’t attracted to you (at least off the bat) with long hair? That’s not shallow, it’s honest. It would probably be a different outcome if you fell in love, were in a LTR, and then decided to grow your hair out. Dumping you over that would be shallow...

I have guys come at me who get super salty if I’m anything less than flirty. I’m not upping the ante and calling them ugly, gross, etc even if I think that. I’m already uncomfortable af. They don’t seem to care about how uncomfortable they make me. Why should I care to break down point by point why they are un-dateable?

It’s incumbent on him to figure it out — not on others, especially strangers, to do it for him. He should also maybe talk to friends, family, therapist, etc about his dating problems? Rather than people who are rejecting him and don’t want to be around him — those people want to extricate themselves from an uncomfortable situation ASAP, so expecting brutal honesty from them is just unrealistic. Just being real here. If it’s been 20 years of nonstop rejection, the 3 places I’d look: unrealistic s…

Why does the reason for rejection matter? One should learn how to roll with the punches and deal with rejection in a healthy way, regardless of the supposed reason. I’ve had to reject people and I’ve never come out and said, “sorry you’re ugly, not happening” or anything like that. And it’s usually not the reason, or the only one anyway. A lot of guys have intolerable personalities. Whether it’s due to their insecurities is no ones problem but their own.

Like it or not, dating is all about signaling. Judging by how many guys moan about paying, this is a very easy way for smarter ones to up their game. Signal that you’re interested, signal that you’re not broke, signal that you’re magnanimous instead of stingy and difficult. Why wouldn’t you? Money should never be an issue on a date. If a girl actually uses you for a free meal, take it and move on. An experience like that shouldn’t drive you to become petty. The next girl may be worth it 100 time…

Since we’re going off nothing but anecdotes, this doesn’t align with my experience at all.

Still seems arbitrary. My girl was 31 when we got together, I was 19. Still together and happy 14 years later. A lot of guys dating way younger girls are sleazy — fact. But I don’t think it’s across the board, or that it should be ruled out completely. Younger people, and women specifically, should be cautious though.

Says you. It’s pretty obvious to me that lack of social skills and mental instability are major factors.

I was referring to the “many” men around here who seem very bitter and resentful towards women, not just incels. I wasn’t commenting on what the majority is doing, just that there are a lot of bitter guys around here who assume natural born looks/height are the only issues.

If you’re always brooding and terribly insecure, women can smell it from a mile away. I’m beginning to think that’s problem #1 for many men around here.

Belief in communism doesn’t necessarily imply belief in Marxist teachings. You can also believe in Marxist economic theory (eg labor theory of value) without being a Marxist. Anyone who believes in using the state as a means for revolution is not a consistent anarchist. I personally share a lot of common ground with Marxists in terms of economic theory and social views so we usually jive pretty well as people but aside from autonomists, we do have irreconcilable moral/political differences becau…

In my book, that’s just a Marxist. Both ancoms and Marxists ultimately seek stateless communism. The primary difference is the means. Ancoms don’t believe the state can just wither away like Marxists do, so they generally don’t advocate for empowering the state.

“Left libertarian” (and ancom) implies “anarchist” — definitely the radical left.

I think there’s a big difference between “overweight” and “obese” in this context. Men are probably more tolerant of women being overweight. Men are thirstier and more desperate after all. Once you cross over into obesity, the problem becomes more universal. I think it’s reasonable to assume that it’s very difficult to be attracted to obese people, outside of fetishization, regardless of gender. I could never be aroused by an obese woman, and that includes my partner if she were to ever become o…

Do they ever meet women? Go on first dates? They might just be getting vetted out quickly for dropping red flags left and right. I think the mental instability of males is a big part of the reason women are choosing to be alone after a few bad LTRs. It’s not worth the stress taking years off their lives. Looks are important but so is being a man who is well adjusted, fun to be around, and can roll with the punches without becoming an angry/violent/moping asshole. I sense so much resentment from …

I think women put a lot more effort in, in that regard. I’ve heard more complaints than I can count in both the LGBT and straight dating worlds about men who show up unshowered, don’t brush their teeth, etc. OTOH, many women spend hours getting ready for a date.

I doubt this is what you meant but I compromised on this standard— “What you call a chick that don't suck dick? You don't.” -JID She’s just not into it, she’s not really into getting head herself either. 13 years later we are still together, although it’s one of the reasons we eventually moved away from monogamy. It’s hard to have big holes in your sexual compatibility/intimacy, long term.

Agree to disagree. I’m a man and I love when a woman fixes herself from head to toe, especially if I get the feeling she’s going the whole 9, like, for me. That’s a huge turn on. That’s the shit that drives me to keep a hard body, work on my game, work on my skin, just be my best self etc. I would never act stingy with a girl like this. Well, I’m not the type to act stingy period, but the point is if a girl is making hella effort, you should get your shit together and respond in kind IMO. I do h…

I don’t understand all this emphasis on going Dutch. It just seems petty. If a dinner date is breaking the bank you have bigger (financial) problems that you need to sort out. I’d rather just reach for the bill and handle it to prevent any pettiness. If a girl insists on paying for her meal, great, that’s fine. As a guy, do you think it’s a good look to demand that your date pays — is that helping or hurting her perception of you? I’m not talking about what’s right or wrong, just bring practical…

It’s a numbers thing. I’m sure it’s justified. I have a lot of gay friends/acquaintances (unfortunately I’m not very into guys) and I deal with this problem all the time. I’m a very friendly/kind person and I’m not completely rigidly “straight” and I hate that desperate guys take that as a reason to throw themselves at me in the grossest of ways. I don’t blame women for approaching things this way — it feels gross when guys immediately treat you like that. OTOH, those times when women (strangers…

Some men are just bad at dealing with rejection. You mentioned proximity to gaming — are you taking about experiences with gamers, specifically?
