It was not an ex but an old friend with an intense relationship. I just invited her to a trip directly not mentioning the past at all. The invite was infomation only and that I plan to go. High value, low stakes. If it is a yes is it good if it is a no or unsure you just say no worries and shrug it off. EDIT: This was after 2 years, similar time span as you.

My view is, if they're offended, that's their problem The issue is that even if you are outcome independent, nonchalant, this can really backfire.
