Well I carry a mini gun around with me and wear a kevlar vest anywhere I go so clearly you don't take your safety seriously and aren't taking responsibility for yourself Mate, we are talking about school children on their way home from school, students going to the shops, adults who work jobs. Not fucking Jackie chan. No one should have to carry anything around for their safety

What? So women carry round pepper spray and keys in between their fingers and avoid unlit streets because they don't feel the responsibility to defend themselves? Have you ever spoken to a woman? Why do you think there's so many women's rights groups and conversations about stuff like this? Clearly, if it wasn't an issue, it wouldn't be talked about

Men have the ability to protect themselves. Generally, we are stronger and faster. We are far less vulnerable. That's not to say we aren't at danger at night or aren't any less threatened but women are generally perceived as less able to defend themselves and sex crimes are committed in far greater volumes against women. I feel like the intention was quite clear. And surely its the people at that level who SHOULD be having discussions like this? The conversation we are having now doesn't exactly change anything but they do have the power for real change. For example the advice given to the public by the police should be challenged and looked at when it is harmful or not addressing of the underlying problem

I think the joke is misplaced but with good intent. She has a platform so why not use it. It upset some people and that was the point. It wasn't a joke to be funny. It was to get her point across that the advice being given to women by the police is stupid and a joke

Pretty sure this was a joke and the fact everyone in the comments is outraged by it literally proves her point. Women are being given the advice to not go out at night in order to stay safe. She's making this joke in order to show how silly this type of advice is. I agree it's probably not in good taste but it's worked to get the point across clearly
