You have to be willing to look dumb and inexperienced when starting something new. That's the best way I've learned. Plus, people are more willing to help and show someone who's humble, vs someone who seems to be trying too hard.

If it's a small chip they can usually fill those in for a small amount of money. Regardless, you have a chip now and your options are to pay to fix it or let it be. If you leave it alone it can spread to a cracked windshield. From experience though, a lot of people don't notice chipped windshields.
