Using stereotypes can cause one to walk through the world blind. Being aware of stereotypes, I think, would be closer to what you're trying to convey. Also, that is a poorly chosen example. Women naturally care for children; of course you'd want your child to approach a woman. You don't (frequently) notice any (functional) breasts on men.
